If you were to make a Liberty room

As some people on here know, my parents bought a house (instead of throwing money away in rent) and we're moving into it at the end of this month. I fully plan on making a Liberty room in the house somewhere. However, I'm trying to figure out exactly what should go in the Liberty room.

It will be red.

I'm going to hang up all of the newspaper articles from this football season in there.

I don't know what else I should get. Should I somehow try and get an old jersey from somewhere and frame it? What else would make it a great Liberty room?

Schedule posters are a must.

A picture of a smiling Coach D with his 2006-07 Big South Championship team will fit right into your new room.

Also, go and get the old mascot uniform and hang it up

What are the chances of me pulling that off?

SJ, I'm in the process of doing the same thing at my house now. I already have a UVA room pretty decked out, just need a comforter and wall clock for that one.

As for the LU room, I'm just getting started. My wife's sister does these sweet canvas paintings, she did one for me of UVA's logo, and she is in the process of doing the eagle logo for my LU room. I have started to collect the different program's schedule posters. I also have a neat frame piece I am putting together now- from the '04 Big South Championship team. I have all the newspaper clippings from then, the ticket stubs from the tournament games, and my blue flames fanatics t-shirt they were hyping that year.

I'm getting a red comforter, with blue sheets and pillow cases that I found at target.

Anything LU that you can get your hands on. I'd do the walls Red with dark blue trim.

Well, the bookstore has blankets that you can put on the wall like some people do...some pennants/banners or whatever would be nice...don't really know what else.

I have a stupid ceramic football lamp you can have.

The blanket/flag on the wall is something I thought of.

Manson, your tournament run stuff is basically my stuff from this year's football season.

I honestly don't know exactly how much room I have. We close on the house next Friday hopefully and then I'll be able to get in there and start planning things out.

I would love to get my hands on an actual jersey of someone's and frame that bad boy! Maybe Scar's?!

It's off Campbell Ave on King St. It's a decent area. The neighborhood is old but seems to be kept up decent. It's nowhere near the condition of some parts of Campbell Ave.

Believe me, I've been thinking about this for a while, just need to get MrsPA to go shopping w/ her mom for a weekend.

Get the official number (or whatever classification system they use) for the LU colors. Take them to Home Depot- they will mix the exact match paint for you.

Red base coat, approx 2 foot wide blue band/belt around the middle of the room w/ 2" white border on it.

Then see if you can get the good folks at FatHead to make up a LU helmet graphic to hang- they're about 100 bucks, but so far- only a few schools.

Even better, have a life sized "Gado" made up my them.

Also, neon signs- a must. Know any glass-blowers? (don't start)

I like the idea SJ, see if you can get your hands on an old jersey or helmet that may be for sale. I am sure with the connections on this board, you can get something. You can order a personalized Flames jersey form Universal T's.

Medic, I've thought about different ways to paint it. I was going to do exactly what you said and halfway across the wall put and LU but thought it would look bad. I may go with a thinner blue strip but that's what I was thinking of doing for the paint.

Neon would be great but would be expensive as balls.

I may have some old stuff back in Philly at my mom's place. No game jersey though. SJ, you know I am LENDING you some stuff for your outfit on Sat. I don't want to go to the SJ Fortress of Solitude and see my shorts hanging under glass

Haha, don't worry about that. There's a lot of work to be done before any of it can be started. They put paneling up on the concrete and I don't know if we're leaving the basement just concrete or hanging sheetrock or what.

The room wouldn't be complete without a salute to Mel Hankinson.

If you're going to paint horizontal stripes or bands, a laser-level is a must. Even then, most homes aren't square, even from the start. It can be pretty tricky. If you go that route and want help, let me know. I did big horizontal bands in my son's nursery that came out nearly perfect. It took about 17 hours of painting for a small room, but it was worth it.

I checked ebay for you...

Unless you want a set of DLP VHS tapes to hang on the wall, you're out of luck.

The Rocco Era poster was pretty cool, although I found it funny that they're already calling it an era.
