Though I think everyone has a general idea of how it works, sometimes gearheads and techies (like me) appreciate details. So, here it is:
How the First Down Line Works
Yep. It's all about that magical yellow line that started appearing on our televised football fields around eight years ago.

I do the play-by-play for the football games at my school and I have to admit that I get mad because there isn't a yellow line in real life. How are we supposed to know if he made it?
The guy who comes up with a way to make the line visible to spectators in the stands wins a prize.

I was impressed at how the yellow line actual showed (shown?) through the snow last night.

Would it have been on top of the snow? But you all know what your mothers always told you about eating yellow snow!
