I need to see Midway 2019. But both 1917 and Top Gun look spectacular
It will be absolutely impossible for Top Gun to suck

If they’ve paid attention to the 80s reboots, do not try to make it politically correct. Include lots of fan service. There will be 95% attendance that saw and adores the original. It's highly quoted and absolutely full of great reaction gifs.

Just do that again and they can start printing money. I don’t care a bit about the plot.

Have you seen the trailers? Those alone tell you it won’t suck no matter how PC they make it. Just the way they filmed it is awesome. Plus, when you looked at all the other reboots (looking at you Ghostbusters) you could tell they were gonna suck.
(Looks like Gooses son is one of the students BTW)

FWIW, PC is different than representation. People often confuse the two. But here's what I'm looking forward to.

-Bad Boys for Life - Honestly, will wait for this one to be a rental, but they've been trying to get this off the ground for years. Smith and Lawrence have great chemistry
-Dolittle - It looks cheesy but something that my kids will enjoy and Downey has a great presence that can make nearly anything in he's in watchable.
-Downhill -Will Farrell is hit or miss these days but the trailer looks good and this is a remake of a 2014 Swedish film.
-The Call of the Wild -I love the book and love seeing books I enjoy adapted to film. If they're bad, I still have the book, lol.
-Onward -Pixar. Tom Holland. Chris Pratt. Looks great and deals with themes that should touch the adults.
-A Quiet Place Part II -Loved the first one, really looking forward to the second.
-Mulan -Looks great, even if they won't be singing "I'll Make A Man Out Of You."
-Black Widow -Another MCU movie with a great cast. Really looking forward to this one. MCU has been pretty consistent for me as far as cinema enjoyment!
-Soul -Pixar again. Again, looks great and deals with those heavy themes that Pixar's never afraid of.
-In the Heights -I like musicals and this one is based on Lin-Manuel Miranda's first big hit before Hamilton. It's directed by Jon M. Chu, who did a great job with Crazy Rich Asians. Should be good!
-Top Gun: Maverick -I've been waiting for this one for a long time. I know that Tony Scott was working on this before he killed himself (RIP) and I thought that this project was just cursed. This better include some Kenny Loggins or I will riot.
-Free Guy -This almost looks like a cross between Lego Movie, Truman Show, and who knows what else. It looks entertaining enough though.
-Ghostbusters: Afterlife -This is what a Ghostbusters reboot should be. You don't need to forget the past to create a new team. Allowing both to live side by side in a soft reboot is what was needed. Hopefully the film is good.
-Tenet -We all should watch just about anything by Christopher Nolan. He's earned that. Fun fact, the first movie my middle son saw was Inception when he was about 3 weeks old. Don't worry, it was a drive in. I'm not sadistic enough to ruin the movie going experience for other people. He didn't sleep through the film but he just stared at it. Maybe he thought he was dreaming.
-Jungle Cruise -While the first Pirates of the Caribbean films were great, the sequels fell of the railed. The Rock and Emily Blunt are always fun to watch and Jungle Cruise is one of my favorite Disney Parks rides. Fun fact, the best Jungle Cruise ride is at Hong Kong Disneyland, hands down.
-Bill & Ted Face the Music -Wild Stallions. 'Nuff said.
-Last Night in SoHo -I don't know much about this film but it's directed by Edgar Wright who's earned my viewing.
-BIOS -Futuristic Tom Hanks film. Jury's out but most Tom Hanks films gain some interest from me but I only watch about half of them.
-Death on the Nile -Kenneth Branagh once again directs his return as Hercule Poirot after Orient Express and once again, he brings along a great cast for this Agatha Christie mystery.
-Eternals -Another MCU film. This one will be launching a ton of new characters and they have a pretty big cast. Should be very interesting to see where the MCU goes next with their big films post Avengers.
-Godzilla vs. Kong -My family has enjoyed each entry in this series so far. Are they great? Nope. But they are fun to watch. That's all I ask. My middle son is obsessed with Godzilla. After watching the first film in this series, he was on Wikipedia learning everything he can about Godzilla.
-Raya and the Last Dragon -Still a mystery but it's Disney Animation, which has earned my eyeballs.
-Dune -I'll be honest, I never got into book or the David Lynch film but Denis Villeneuve is another filmmaker that earns my eyes.
-Coming 2 America -Eddie Murphy seems to have some electricity bills to pay or something since he's doing more nostalgic work than he has ever done. Let's hope this goes well. Original is a classic.

Deliberately excluding men isn’t representation though. It’s PC under the guise of representation. There are plenty of great female lead action movies that don’t cross the PC line. Wonder Woman is a killer example. Gal Gadot is a boss that I’m excited for my daughter to be able to look up to. Even Rey and Jyn in the new Star Wars trilogy and Rogue One are good examples. Not to mention The Hunger Games, Kill Bill, Lara Croft, and our beloved Sarah Connor from the Terminator series.

Oh, I know. That’s why I said it. But I see people who argue that any female action lead is some kind of experiment in SJW propaganda.

A lot of it is spread online by people who never even watch films but it’s believed by those who lack critical thinking to consider it for themselves.

Not everything but Ghostbusters and Oceans 8 both had an SJW vibe around their production.

I haven’t seen either film entirely so I can’t comment. But if a film looks creatively bankrupt, it is what it is, regardless of the motives behind the casting.

I think that Brie Larson said some things doing press for the movie that lead people to believe that but when I saw the movie, it was abundantly clear that was just Larson talking for herself because the movie itself was pretty solid. Incredibly underrated.

It was difficult to get over Brie Larson I admit I may have projected into it her attitude but I’m not sure that’s unexpected. She really didn’t seem like she wanted to be there and hated the experience which I thought was odd
I much prefer Gal Gadot. Partially because I have a respect for IDF soldiers and also because she seems to accept and embrace the role she is in. She seems to appreciate the audience etc.

That's the thing, people have been projecting Brie Larson's personal statements onto the film. My family loved it. My wife is a good thermostat for this kind of stuff because she doesn't follow the headlines and is pretty far from what our culture considers a feminist. My middle son loved his Captain Marvel figure he got in his stocking this year.

I try to turn off all the noise when I go see a movie. I mean, there are far worse things going on among folks in Hollywood than the statements that Larson made. Trust me, I spent a few years living there.

I try not to give online trolls that much power over what I enjoy or don't enjoy.

I’ll always love Bond. Daniel Craig has flummoxed me. I didn’t like his choice for Bond. But then really liked him as Bond (Casino Royals is my 2nd favorite) But now it seems like he doesn’t want to BE Bond so I’m thinking it might spill over into the movie. I dunno. Maybe I’m overthinking it :D
