I used to be a giant James Bond fan. As a kid I watched them all and loved Timothy Dalton’s Bond (it was the first I was introduced to in the 80’s).

I even enjoyed Casino Royale. At some point I lost interest.

I think it has something to do with the lack of stakes. Even if Bond dies, I know he’ll be back in a few years with someone else playing him.

I keep meaning to go back and watch the rest of the Daniel Craig movies but just haven’t gotten around to it. I considered putting it on this list but didn’t feel good about it because of where I am with the Bond franchise.

I also didn’t include Wonder Woman 84 on it. I love Gadot’s portrayal but hate WB’s lack of direction on where to take the DC film universe. It just makes it harder for me to care about their characters.

I guess so. In this case it was done to avoid offense to the Chinese Communist Party, which I guess I thought made it super political. But your right - its pretty much just a willingness to change and re-tell history for appeasement sake.

Fictional movie set with futuristic near orbit aircraft is rewriting history? Got it.

Sorry, I didn't mean the movie story itself. It is a fictitious story. I assumed that everyone knew that.
However, the original fighter jacket did reference an actual/historical US Pacific tour and correctly depicted who the US's Pacific allies were at the time. The new one removes the prior reference to "real history" and creates an alternate fictious one (seemingly done to appease the Chinese, who are financing the movie)

I stopped taking you seriously after this he was awful.

Give me Roger Moore Sean Connery all day long.

Oh, I don't disagree. I'm just saying when I was first exposed to Bond, I loved Timothy Dalton's. I feel like Living Daylights was on HBO all the time.

As I got older, I became a big fan of Connery.

To be honest, I think they have all have their positives that they bring to the role.

However, it's also ended up being the downfall of why I don't really care about the franchise anymore. I can enjoy the movies for what they are, but there's always something inside me that says, "everything that happens in this movie is going to be erased with a new actor in a few years."

Love all the suggestions for 2020. I was really into movies back at LU from 03-07. Had a giant footlocker in the dorm locked up with all the R rated movies I owned. Pretty sure the RA's knew what was in there but didn't care so long as it wasn't obvious. Been in a bit of a movie hiatus over the past 5 years, choosing a TV show over a movie most of the time, but quickly realizing that despite the "shorter" nature of a TV show, it was actually more of a giant time suck than a movie. Not sure if anyone else was in a similar situation. So in 2019 I started to ramp up watching movies again (from like one movie every 3 months to about 3/week) catching up on current and older titles. Been a joy to go through and plan to watch most of what is listed here. So here's to an awesome slate of 2020 titles!
