One upon a time she posted on this board ...
The New Yorker wrote:Conservative Evangelicals Attempt to Disentangle Their Faith from Trumpism
Karen Swallow Prior stands at the vanguard of a new movement of Christians looking to reclaim their faith from the regressive politics that have co-opted it.

On a recent afternoon at Liberty University, in Lynchburg, Virginia, Karen Swallow Prior was leading a discussion of Rudyard Kipling’s “The White Man’s Burden” for the seventeen students enrolled in her English course on Victorian literature. Prior, who is fifty-three and was wearing a high-necked floral-print dress, looked as if she might have stepped out of “Great Expectations,” except for her startling magenta lipstick, and her hair, which is dyed bright orange at the crown and a paler blond around her face, resembling an upside-down flame. On the whiteboard behind her in the windowless classroom, she’d written, “Colonialism, Imperialism, Darwinism, Orientalism, Eurocentrism / Anglocentrism.”

A very pleasant and mildly thought-provoking article.

It’s fascinating how conservatives decry this won the left for reciting thenplatitudes they are sooon-fed. But both sides are guilty of the same. As if there are degrees of conservatism, and only the truly committed espouse all parts.

The part I loved most about he article was her belief in the morality of critical thinking!

I certiantly can respect her much more than our school's president who recently said in an interview he doesn't believe Trump can do anything wrong. Among other things.

I wish Jr would use that energy to support a flawed president and support our basketball program :)

That interview was a roller coaster. The first few questions I was thinking “I disagree with you but I understand your view point.” Then it took a hard turn to “Oh no Jerry. Don’t say that. Please. No. Wow.”

I took that interview, and especially the title answer, differently. When he said he couldn’t imagine Trump doing something to harm the country, I took it as, “I know the man, and I don’t think he would.” Obviously the phrasing laid it wide open to be interpreted differently.

I’m sure J, like anyone else, could easily come up with a list of things any man could do to harm the country from the office of President. He simply said he can’t imagine Trump doing one of those things. It was a weird twist of words.

That wasn’t the quote that stood out to me. Knowing Jerry, I had the same takeaway as you to that one.

It was the poor people quote that I couldn’t believe he said.
