I never got mine cut out and I'm regretting it now. I've had one trying to break skin since Saturday night and it hurts like crap. I'm sitting here and all I can think about it how bad my mouth hurts. This sucks.

At this point I wish I did. I can't concentrate on class or the board, just the tooth.

You really don't want my perspective here- so I'll share it
Had 3 of them yanked Fri the 3rd , as well as 2 molars. Yup- 5 extractions in one sitting.
Needless to say I demanded sedation- potential coma be damned. One week of hallucigenic OTC Drugs later I'm starting to feel better, though I'm not thrilled about the fact that my gums are currently sutured to the inside of my cheeks.
Why , I have no idea. Evidently a joke on me, courtesy of one masochistic oral surgeon.
I req they remove the sutures early- so I'll update you on THAT process Wednesday nite after its over.
In summation- choose chronic pain, which only gets worse- and eventually deterioration of your jawbone, then most likely- death.... OR.... pain, surgery, more pain, living in a fog for a week, blood/drool, soft foods for 2 weeks, gradually less pain (other than sutures ripping the insides of your face open on a daily basis) then- I HOPE- A MOUTH FREE OF PAIN.
good luck, Mr Sunshine OUT

Well I've had two partially come in and I had plenty of room for them and I think they may be all of the way in. This one feels like there's enough room, it just hasn't completely broken skin yet.

I can assure you, if they're not completely thru by age 36- you're doc will recommend you have them yanked. They WILL be an issue.

The dentist is going to recommend pulling them no matter what, and I've got way too many projects and papers due the day we come back from break to think about getting them pulled over break. I have yet to understand why every teacher gives us projects due the day after a week long "break."

If you have dental insurance, get them extracted ... end of story. I'm not sure what type of neanderthal dentists they have in Suburban Philly these days (my great-great grandfather graduated from Penn's Dentistry school back in the day) but there should be much longterm pain if it is done properly.
I had four taken out in one sitting and two in another. Local anesthestic worked just fine. Although I admit I didn't head to the pharmacy quick enough to pick up my pain killers and the anesthetic started wearing off while I was waiting for it to be filled and it was excruciating for about an hour or so as a result. The only caveat is that if you get several done at once it could make it difficult to talk for about a week.

Yea, but three projects the week after Thanksgiving and one the week after that are kind of a big deal and holding me back from it.

Coming from someone who goes to the dentist once every 8 years get it done...i waited until all 4 were out and that just made it worse although the place i went was the best in town...over at Wyndhurst next to Neighbors place...he's great, he went to school with Jeannie Falwell so maybe he'll give a LU discount...lol...but he's the best, he'll drug you up knock you out and you wont feel a thing...it wasnt bad for me at all

Is there a chance they never come in? My sister is 22, Brother is 27 and I am 26. None of us have had any pain or signs of the wisdom teeth. I guess they could have come in w/ out us knowing?

Mine first became noticable when I was 33 or 34.

I'm 27 and I've been putting off having mine pulled for over two years now. I have an irrational fear of dentists, and while I can usually force myself to get my regular cleanings, oral surgery ranks as one of the most frustrating things I can possibly imagine. I'm going to have to be knocked out completely for it to happen.

That's what I was hoping but this one's being completely stupid. My mom's never came in.

Had all 4 cut out in the morning and went to see Dallas Cowboys play the LA Rams with Joe Willie Namath at QB that night. Suck it up and "get er done".

If they're breaking the skin, that's a good sign. Wisdom teeth are a racket for dentists to rake in cash. If they're breaking, you need to make sure it's necessary to have them out. It's normal to have some irritation as they come in. I've never had mine taken out. My family dentist said that way too many are taken out, b/c it's the cash cow for dentists. Find someone you trust and ask if it's necessary. My current dentist says that I'm the first person in 3 years that he's seen that has all their teeth and never a cavity. Woooooo.

I've never had a cavity but I haven't been to the dentist in 9 years.
My mom also said the same thing about getting them pulled.

How do you know you've never had a cavity. Perhaps you had one and lost it. In that case, you would have to conduct a cavity search.

As it stands now, I'm gonna graduate on time. That's huge for someone who's transferred twice.

my orthodontist told me to get mine pulled last summer. i never did, because i don't see how they're causing any problems. i agree with realist, its a big racket for dentist to make cash
