This is pretty funny!

Dead Man Wins County Board Seat By 12,000 Votes
(AP) MONROE, N.C. A candidate has won election to a North Carolina county board -- despite being dead for a month.

Sam Duncan was the top vote-getter Tuesday for two seats on Union County's Soil and Water Conservation board.

County elections officials knew of Duncan's death, but no one told the voters.

The Democratic Party ran newspaper ads endorsing him the weekend before the election, and literature distributed near the polls included his name.

Party officials say they didn't know Duncan had died when they placed the ads and printed the literature.

He won by 12,000 votes.

One man who voted for him says he was shocked to learn "that poor Sam was gone."

Duncan's seat will be filled by appointment.

Monroe is southeast of Charlotte and very very close to South Carolina, which explains a lot.

Next you will be saying your BBQ is the best..hah!

It depends on what you like. I'm not a big BBQ fan to begin with. Some people swear by NC BBQ (there are 3 different kinds) but that's because they like the style.

Carolina boys cracking on Virginians is a riot.

Oh yeah, your slavery-loving ancestors deserved to lose the war.

Just for the record, my ancestors did not own slaves...yes, they fought for the South, and rightfully so, but they were poor mountain boys, not rich plantation owners. And the only reason we lost was because the North finally figured out they had bette numbers so instead of using skill Grant just had to use far greater numbers to overwhelm us...Lee would've easily defeated Grant if the numbers were even.

Oh how I was waiting for someone to take the bait. Its about time you Southerners started to face the facts and not repeat those old falacies. The rebellion was about slavery, end of story. Explain to me what "states' rights" they were fighting for otherwise.

As for the brute numbers defense of the rebels' defeat, I cry baloney. Did the North have more soldiers? Yes. But the South had a huge population of slaves at home defending property and providing commerce that more than evened the numbers. The Union had to have a large portion of the forces at home protecting infrastructure from terroristic attack while the South essentially had everyone at their eastern & western fronts with no one in reserve.

Lee was a great general and no one would ever deny him that distinction. But the same couldn't be said for many of the other generals in the Confederacy. And denying Grant's unquestioned success on the battlefield despite often being outmanned in unfamiliar enemy territory cannot be dismissed. Grant & Lee served together in the Mexican war two decades the rebellion. They both were two of our finest military leaders in U.S. history. Yes, I know Grant was a horrendous President. But that should not diminsh his unparalleled success on the battlefield at Shiloh, Vicksburg, Chattanooga and into Virginia.

I love these discussions.

Yea, well put em in a thread that actually has something to do with slavery and not this one. Slavery is so off the wall in this discussion it's stupid.
