I remember when this happened, but had not heard the tape. How people can say there is no evil in the world I will never know. A couple of comments that I like: Compare this to N. Korea and how isolation can breed greater paranoia and abiity to be controlled. It is good to remeber things like this, to show that ANYTHING can happen and EVIL does exist.

Have you seen the television movie starring Powers Booth as Jim Jones and Ned Beatty as the California congressman who is ultimately killed trying to leave Guyana? It was made not long after the actual incident and is a fairly accurate portrayal of the Jones's life and ministry. Watch it if you ever get the chance Booth is really creepy as Jones (but Jones was probably a pretty creepy character too.)
I listened to this the other night and read the transcript. It took me about an hour and a half to get to sleep.

A friend of mine had a class in demons (or demonology, I don't know the theological term for it) in grad school, and said he didn't have as much trouble sleeping that night as he did the day he heard the Jim Jones tape. Freaky.
