Here's a website that is very close to Liberty's name...not sure how legit their outfit is; I would think this is a close case for possible trademark confusion for both American University and Liberty University.

We've already tangled legally with another Liberty University in California that came along after us. I'm not sure exactly how the same thing would play out with these folks since they have the "American" in front.

There are plenty of folks trying to capitalize on our success in distance learning. This school advertises online all over the place and has for several years (we used to get them on our Google ads at the Firehouse).

Yeah, with the generic term Liberty, there are a ton of business that use that name; that's the only thing that bugs me about the Liberty moniker is all of the other places that also use it, so it is less unique among institutional names: a quick google search brings up the following:

Liberty Mutual
Liberty Tax Service
Liberty Alliance Project
Liberty Unbound/LIBERTY magazine
New York Liberty
City of Liberty MO
West Liberty State University
Liberty Pumps
The Liberty Bowl
Liberty Wire & Cable

et al

I'm not so sure this DLP thing we're marketing is such a great idea.

If you think about it, we're becoming another University of Phoenix online.

I know many profs here don't like everything going over to DLP because it devalues the degree. I'd have to agree with them.

DLP is great. I was talking to H'burgFlame and one of my professors yesterday about the DLP program. So many adults want to get a degree (master's or undergrad) but they have kids so they can't afford to either move and go to school or physically go to a school to get their classes. It helps a ton of people out, not to mention DLP pays to run the school. A ton of the funds used to run the everyday stuff comes from DLP tuition.

DLP is the wave of the future. Nearly every major university in the nation is getting on the bandwagon in some capacity. LU was a pioneer in the field and that has helped ELEVATE the value of our degrees.

It appears they still do with small print at the bottom left once you scroll down mentioned they aren't affiliated with Liberty University, Lynchburg, Virginia.

our DLP department makes A LOT of money. I think it might be the highest grossing department. I'd say it's a good idea.
