Greetings Flame fans!
Professional Lurker here...
After nearly 7 years in the Lynchburg I am moving to Houston in May.
I wanted to know if there was anyone ( fellow alum or otherwise) that could give me some pointers on where to live and things to watch out for when it comes to big city living. Anything that can help with the transition would be greatly appreciated!

Yes, Sly Fox is our resident Houstonian. I have in-laws in Spring and know people who live in The Woodlands, but Sly is the most knowledgable of that area.

Obviously I would be happy to help. PM sent.
As for the rest of you, your time will come eventually. Texas is the Land of Opportunity. Just don't be like Atrain and pick the one place in the Lone Star State that is the antithesis of the Texan experience. Avoid the Dallas metro like the plague unless you are the type of person who thinks being pretentious and constantly trying to impress each other is your sweet spot. Dallas is the anomaly.

Oh...the irony...bashing Dallas for being pretentious and trying to impress while bragging about how far ahead Houston is of everything/everyone, constantly

Someone's just jealous our metro is larger, not oil-dependent and the fact our transit system, professional sports teams and BBQ are better (but still not quite the level of Memphis BBQ and way inferior to Carolina BBQ - both east and west).
Oh, and our football (all levels) is better too
Please don't be a typical Houstonian like Sly

Dallas BBQ is no better than Houston ... both are subpar in comparison to Austin. Anyone in Dallas bragging about their metro is a joke since most have never even been west of Irving. Enjoy your DART system that folks are too pretentious to actually ride. And as for sports, did you actually flip on the TV last night? HaHa

I know several of my coworkers who ride DART. And as for sports, Houston has exactly 2 national championships, both from the Rockets. The only championship lacking from the Dallas area is a World Series.
One night means nothing

The only sports advantage for the Metroplex is the Stars. The Cowboy championships are all ancient history and wouldn't be worth bragging about because then you have to claim Cowboy fans. And so MLS titles mean nothign to soccer mad DFW?
PS - It is 2-0 and counting.

I know a slew of people (most former TV co-workers) in pharma sales down here. Healthcare is a huge growth area in Texas. If you looked hard enough, you'd find opportunity.

Could always work for Social Security. There will be an opening once we move back east. Although there are a great amount of opportunities in various industries in the DFW area.
Sly, ok, y'all have 1 more soccer championship and 1 more NBA championship (that came BEFORE the Cowboys) than Dallas (soccer mad? not anyone that I know of, I know more MLS fans in Seattle and Portland than here). We still lead.

Drop my name! I know there are openings but it's 'who you know'.
