One of my students mentioned on FB that her family was having CHICKEN for Thanksgiving. I thought turkey (or maybe ham) was the only option for this holiday. That being said, what are your favorite Thanksgiving foods (or traditions) that are looking forward to today?

And for the , what responsiblities, if any, do you have in the kitchen today?

We're going to prepare a 10 lb Wahoo (a fish, not a Cavalier) supplied free of charge by the wife's brother, who is a small scale commercial fisherman. It will be baked with pineapple, basted with a coconut milk sauce and served with rice, potato and crab soup, broccoli and lambi a la vinegreta (conch salad). Thanksgiving is a strictly North American holiday, so noone here in the DR has a clue about our customs, but we will be feasting and giving thanks. Turkey is available, but really expensive. For Christmas eve dinner her mom bakes 8 or 10 chickens to feed the extended family, prepared with sage and apples, not unlike one of the variations of a traditional baked turkey in the states.

Since Mrs Purple is on the IR/DL it's all me, except the corn pudding.
Biscuits and gravy for breakfast

Turkey (crock pot)
Ham
The afore mentioned corn pudding
Stuffing (not stove top)
Mashed potatoes
Cranberry Sauce
Corn
Green beans
Pumpkin pie
Chess(not cheese) cake.

Purple, I thought you were the one who married the athlete, but while my better half is out doing the Turkey Trot 5K, I'm in the kitchen, preparing:

13-pound turkey
mashed potatoes & gravy
green beans (my old Chatt. Choo Choo recipe)

Fresh Market is also providing the following:
sweet potato casserole
butternut squash casserole
fresh cranberry salad
dinner rolls
chocolate pecan pie with vanilla ice cream
rasberry lemonade and sweet tea

It's just our family here but we like leftovers. I have a 20 pound bird in the oven with garlic cloves and various spices of my choosing.

For sides we have creamy mashed potatoes, stuffing, deviled eggs, green bean casserole, salami slices stuffed with cream cheese and peperoncinis.

For desert my wife made pumpkin pie, coconut cream pie and apple crisp.

Should be delicious!

If you've never had the chocolate pecan pie from Fresh Market, you really should try it! I first had that pie at the Miller's Buffet in Lancaster County, PA, last summer on vacation, and it was to die for.

Pop a slice of the pie in the micowave to warm it up, add a generous scoop of vanilla ice cream, and enjoy.

We typically do a huge spread: turkey, ham, mashed potatoes, green bean casserole, sweet potato souffle, corn, rosemary rolls, etc. However, this year we rented a condo in Pigeon Forge, did Dollywood with the family, and...Mexican for Thanksgiving dinner. It was delicious and lots of fun; the Dollywood Christmas lights are pretty incredible. We will do our big meal for Christmas when all of the extended family comes too.

My Thanksgiving dinner usually only consists of turkey, corn and rolls. My grandmother and other family members do cook more I just don't like any of it. The beer bread my mom makes for every holiday is always amazing. Christmas dinner is usually better(at least to me)

Spent it with the in-laws...the turkey was nice and moist, the gravy was good, but Yankees have NO idea what Thanksgiving food is. No corn pudding (or corn for that matter), no mashed potatoes, no green bean caserole (or green beans, period) and no pumpkin pie - all staples of Thanksgiving with my family, and this was my first Thanksgiving without being home so to speak. The yams were good and they do know how to make real cranberry sauce.

you had thanksgiving with the wrong kind of yankees. Whenever we went to my grandma's house in Maine she had all of the above, minus the corn pudding, but we had corn that is for sure.

True...these were New Yorkers...Upstate New Yorkers...right across the border from Canada.

That explains everything, haha

Good news is I think we may do Canadian Thanksgiving (AKA Columbus Day here in America) to avoid any potential weather disasters next year...which means VA for Thanksgiving AND Christmas.

It also means I won't miss all the good football games like I did this year, haha.
