Campus is buzzing with Justin Kintzel (current worship leader) being "fired".

Several students are voicing their displeasure with David Nasser, Its an interesting thing to keep an eye on for sure.

Yik Yak app, if you dont have it.

Are they upset with Nasser because of the musical direction or what they have experienced from him? Just curious.

For the record, I fully expect there to be some brand name artists brought into the new worship school. Competing with Belmont is tough and some higher profile branding might help the development of the program's reputation.

Nasser has rub a lot of the students the wrong way from what I gather. Now that Justin was released , he put a letter on his twitter, the students are blaming it on Nasser. They didnt like him before, and this is giving them reason to like him less.

I believe in the letter Jusin says " with change of leadership comes change of vision" , and he quoted a tweet about a week ago that said something like, "we werent fired for having an opinion, we were fired for voicing an opinion"

Im hoping Nasser can jump out in front of this , Johnny was decent at putting out fires, this is Nasser's first. We will see if he handles it well.

The tweet is a quote from the Benham brothers, who spoke in convo that day. The letter and the tweet from last week should be seen as completely unrelated.

I read the letter, and it appeared to be appropriate. When new leadership comes, sometimes people leave. I don't see any controversy in either the letter or his tweets.

He said in his letter he had been contemplating this for two weeks, the tweet was 5 days ago. Either way, its Justin vs Nasser currently at LU.

I should clarify, according to What Im reading and hearing students say, its Nasser vs Justin. These two arent out attacking one another. Students are known to over react and blow these things up. So take it with a grain of salt, but its still very interesting to follow.

Im with Sly, I think we may be going to a bigger name band or personality coming to campus to lead music.

Justin's super talented in a lot of different arenas. I hope things were handled the right way but regardless of how it was handled, he'll land on his feet somewhere and thrive.

Don't get me wrong I was really upset when I found out Justin was leaving but I don't think David Nasser had anything to do with this. I don't really know what he has done that students don't like, he called out the students who were leaving convo early but most of my friends thought that was funny.

I enjoyed Justin leading the campus band. I remember when he did the music for the summer bible study and to see wheere he took it to from there was a big encouragement. I also am glad to count him and Ashley among my many friends from my time in Lynchburg. This is a challenging time for them with (apparently) Ashley carrying #3 no doubt

I've actually never heard him lead worship. I know him from his video/graphic side. He's got Creative Arts Pastor written all over him.

I think my first exposure to his creative side was the LUPD videos...youre right though (man I was looking forward to the new campus band heroes video too)

Belmont's own Indelible Grace just passed through LU last week, I think. The LU talent machine has produced a LOT of musical artists, it would make a lot of sense to bring some of them back. Half of the Vertical Church Band up in Chicago are LU grads. It would be great to get some original music coming out of the school.

The school of music should think about starting it's own label, that would open up huge doors.

If so, that explains why the name sounds so familiar to me...

He did the LUPD videos and the Campus Band Heroes videos for coffeehouse and Christmas convo as well (I really hope David Nasser doesnt axe that...its a very fun tradition)

I always really wanted to like convo but I never came around to it.

The idea is really solid. Have the students worship three times a week, and present them with a guest speaker. Yet, Liberty uses convo as more of a showcase, and that's what always turned me off.

I absolutely hate that we're trying to just find "big names" to fill holes at the university. Kintzel did more than merely lead worship at convo. He was extremely approachable and a friend to the students. You won't find that same connection with a big name.

Instead of trying to impress everyone, Liberty should use some of that energy and invest in their current students and community.

That's a pretty definitive statement.
