The last sentence is the key. The Surface Pros typically are as expensive as the laptops. But I believe you can start the countdown to someone explaining you must buy a Macbook Air. It won't be me since I bought one against my better judgement back in May for my wife. It has been a lemon since it came out of the box. But that's just me.

How important is portability to you? Do you travel with your device a great deal?

Yeah, you would be better off with cheap 15" laptop with a detachable touchscreen. That's all the rage at the moment and if you watch closely you can score one for less than the latest Surface Pro.

What would your primary uses be?

I have a Chromebook and it's great for me. Yeah some stuff I don't have on here (Photoshop, Start-o-matic) but when I need to use those I'll just boot up my Windows machine. The ability to eventually add Android apps to ChromeOS was a big reason why I got a Chromebook back in the summer, and now that I can add them, the drawbacks of a Chromebook are a lot less now.

I too had some misgivings about getting a Chromebook because of storage space, but I haven't had any problems with it since I got it. All my music is on Google Play Music so I can listen to it wherever I want as long as I have internet access.

You look silly lugging around a laptop with you around a stadium though. Don't even consider a Surface Pro until Windows 10 comes out. Windows 8 is horrible. Although I do have to admit that with the Surface Pro, being able to install Windows programs is pretty cool, could be a legitimate laptop replacement. But the price tag is rather high.

I actually have made the laptop work for the last few years doing my occasional wedding DJ work and also for writing. How are you doing your audio recording/capturing?

I'm a firm believer that there is no better laptop than an Apple product, with that said the new surface makes me second guess that...or at least want to give it a shot....which is saying a lot and how far they've come.
