Campgrounds or your Backyard

Dear All,
I graduated from LU Online last year and had planned on coming to Lynchburg to walk through Commencement. However the day of graduation last year was the same day I deployed to Afghanistan. Thankfully I will be back in time to walk this year. The problem is hotel rooms are WAY out of my price range. Can anyone recommend a nice, clean, close campground to LU? I have a family of 6. I am also open to sleeping in someone's backyard. Yah..... we're that family. Just call me Cousin Eddie... not really. But seriously, thanks for any information you can pass along. Blessings! GO FLAMES!!

There is a KOA in Elon think it's called just outside Madison Heiggts. There are also a couple in Appomattox. You would be welcome to stay with us but we have a dog that doesn't like strangers

How many days will you be here? Do you know which dates already?

Closest campground to campus is Paradise Lake on 460 East, and it is very family friendly with a lake and slide and train. It even has cabins. I've camped there many times, and it's only about 10-15 minutes from campus:

If you want a little cheaper (but a little farther away), there's Holiday Lake State Park in Appomattox, which is about 30 minutes from campus:

The only other close campground is Wildwood, which probably the one Purple is thinking about, just off the Blue Ridge Parkway, with a nice swimming pool and a variety of cabin sizes:

My house in Roanoke is rented out, otherwise you'd be more than welcome to stay there.

I think there is a KOA, or something like that, just outside of Lexington, near the Natural Bridge, as well.

That might be a bit of a stretch for graduation (about 90 minutes out)

According to Google Maps, the Natural Bridge KOA is 42 miles from Liberty, so you can drive it in just under an hour (but lots of mountains in between):

Paradise Lake is still MUCH closer, if they have availability.

Thanks for the correction Cider...as busy as commencement day is going to be you don't want to be driving too far to get to Williams Stadium unless you come in before the crack of dawn

I would second the Paradise Lake suggestion. Not been there but have heard good things. And it is a direct shot to LU on 460.
