Senator Ted Cruz has been speaking in the Senate for more than 19 hours. I have been watching for the last few hours. I really like this guy. Watch live on the link below.

His exchanges with Senator Dick Durbin (D-IL) were quite interesting.

So after passing a CR that removed funding for ObamaCare (or something like that), the senate then turned around and passed a government spending bill that was stripped of the Republican provision defunding ObamaCare and now the bill returns to the House and if something isnt passed that both sides can agree on, the government shuts down on Tuesday and both sides are planning to lay blame on the other if that happens

And there in lies the problem with our government, and we the people are the ones that will suffer

This is something that I hear about and think in the back of my head, "boy this is a dumb idea that is bad for the country". I was reading my consumer reports magazine about it and it suddenly dawned on me: I actually have to do something because of this law or I'll get fined. Here's a website they've set up, that is not a government run site, that tells you exactly what you personally will have to do

I expect my health costs to go up about 300 dollars once this bad boy kicks in...its gonna hurt..and my coverage will be weakened significantly. This will destroy the middle class.

Yeah I played with it... I would qualify for a 58% subsidy for a family of 3 on the Silver Plan. My premium would be $258.50 per month. I couldn't find any details relating to what the deductible would be, but my guess is it would be abnormally high.
My current coverage offers a $300 deductible with an 80/20% split and the premium is only slightly more than what it would be per month under Obamacare. Of course the kicker here is that with my employer I can use the premium to reduce my taxable income. I'll keep my current coverage.

IF they continue to offer it....

My wife's doubled and I'd if were under hers it would sky rocket. My new job is about the same but to cover her would be a big hike

That's why mine originally went up, it was around $80 a month before we got married and I added her.

A lot of companies are moving to a policy of: if your spouse is employed and can obtain coverage from their employer, then they won't be covered by us. But that started way before Obamacare was even being discussed.

Dave and I are each just going to keep our respective coverages...at least until our (future) marriage is recognized by the Commonwealth. Right now its looking like I have the better plan and it'll cost less. Who knows what it'll be a few years from now.

"Oh, it’s seriously bad. Somebody made a grave error, not in designing the program but in simply implementing the web aspect of it. For example, anybody can put up a web page and claim to be a broker for this system. There is no central place where I can go and say, OK, here are all the legitimate brokers, the examiners for all of the states, and pick and choose one. Instead, any hacker can put a website up, make it look extremely competitive, and because of the nature of the system — this is health care, after all — they can ask you the most intimate questions, and you’re freely going to answer them. What’s my Social Security number? My birth date? … Here’s the problem. It’s not something software can solve. I mean, what idiot put this system out there and did not create a central depository? There should be one website, run by the government, you go to that website and then you can click on all of the agencies. This is insane. So, I will predict that the loss of income for the millions of Americans who are going to lose their identities — I mean, you can imagine some retired lady in Utah, who’s $75,000 dollars in the bank, saving her whole life — having it wiped out one day because she signed up for ObamaCare. And believe me, this is going to happen millions of times. This is a hacker’s wet dream. I cannot believe that they did this. … ObamaCare itself is the loosest of all. You can imagine the type of information: Medical records, personal issues, psychological issues. I mean, the government’s going to know everything in the world about everyone very soon." - John McAfee, founder of McAfee Antivirus

To be fair, there were multiple posts before ATrain's that mentioned people signing up with their spouses. He was just mentioning the effect this would have on his situation.
