AppleTV Question

Hoping someone on here can help me out.

I'm in the process of moving and would like to watch Redskins game but won't be in market. I've been a DirecTV Sunday Ticket subscriber for years but that's not an option for me in the immediate future. I've got access to the Max version that will stream games over my Mac, but I'd like to have them on my 55inch TV.

Would AppleTV with Airplay Mirroring be an option? I'm worried the quality will be terrible. Anybody tried this before?

I bet you a cup of Wawa coffee that SCORCHO knows

he's probably built a system from 2 coathangers and a wad of electrical tape that does it in hi-def.

When I have streamed things from my iPad to my TV via Apple TV I haven't seen any noticeable degrading of quality

Ditto, before the Watch ESPN app was put on there I used to mirror games from my ipad to the apple tv and it looked great to me. Even the video clips on the Flames website look fine when mirrowed onto the tv.

Hey TD, I stream Orioles games, tv shows, and movie streams all of the time from my macbook pro through Airplay to a 47'' plasma. It looks the same as it does on my laptop, which blows my mind. It's pretty clear, even HD sometimes depending on the stream. The only issues I've encountered with Airplay and Apple TV is you cannot stream through the DVD player, due to copyright laws.

I think it is OK... The quality of the stream to your Mac will be a big factor in your satisfaction. Also, make sure you have a good router... I assume you will have two streams at once (one to your Mac, the other to your ATV).

Do you have the ATV already? I <think> Apple might be coming out with new models before X-mas.

alabama24 is right. The quality of your router and wireless signal are the biggest factors in how good the video will look over AirPlay. I've had great results from my iPad and Macbook streaming over AirPlay. I'm using a dual-band 802.11n router and generally get about 250-300Mb of local bandwidth over wireless. Always looks great.

Good luck!

Is Airport worth purchasing Scorch?

I guess I should have read the fine print. It only works with MacBooks from Mid-2011 and on. Mine is a 2010. Oh well. Thanks for the input, all.

I'm a big fan of Apple's network gear. I'm sure several people are pfffft'ing right now because I'm typically a fan of Apple everything, but Apple was actually the very last vendor on the long list of network gear I've owned. Having now owned an Airport Extreme (802.11n) and a few Airport Express devices, I can confidently say that you get what you pay for.

I'm not sure about the newest models. I haven't used them, but I'm a big fan of what I currently have.
