Kroger KR +2.74%, the nation’s largest grocery chain, just added 212 stores in eight states to its arsenal with an all-cash purchase of regional supermarket Harris HRS +1.11% Teeter in a deal valued at $2.44 billion.

The merger will see Kroger, an historically Midwestern outfit, gain further foothold in Southern and Mid-Atlantic areas described “high-growth markets, vacation destinations and university communities.”

Ugh. Harris Teeter is my favorite grocery store below the high end stores like Whole Foods. I've never liked Kroger at all. Hopefully they don't screw up a good thing.

There are a lot of Harris Teeter stores here in NC. In fact, I believe Harris Teeter took over all the Kroger stores in NC and Kroger took over the Harris Teeters in Virginia in some sort of trade off about 15 years ago. I always liked Kroger, and Harris Teeter as well, although we generally shop at Lowes. Hope Kroger still does the triple-coupon thing.

HAHA I work in college athletics. Needless to say I out kicked my coverage and She's definitely going to be making the money. its funny she asked me if that bothered me one day and I laughed. not a chance.
