Nothing better than reading about a school that fires, forces out, or doesn't renew contracts of people who attempt to educate different view points, you know one of the purposes of education .

I guess the world is ending, Cedarville students can now do certain dances! The devil must be inside these students and the administrators that allow it! Are exorcisms allowed on campus? If so, get one to Cedarville ASAP!

And now the more conservative faction is out for revenge? How Christian of them! I guess they have forgotten their teachings from the Bible in Romans 12:17-21:

Do not repay anyone evil for evil. Be careful to do what is right in the eyes of everyone. If it is possible, as far as it depends on you, live at peace with everyone. My father-in-law attended CU awhile back. And they recruited me heavily for athletics, but I was never seriously interested in attending school there. That's my only connection. But reading the article, makes me wonder how close Liberty may have been to similar actions over the years?

The article fails to mention that Cedarville hasn't been affiliated with the the GARBC in years. They are now affiliated with the SBC. The school was bastion of conservative Baptists for most of the last century. But most of my family who graduated there now consider the school so enamored with its pursuit of "relevance" that they are watering down their doctrines considerably. That is why there has been a power struggle at the school that is at the heart of the issues touched on in the article. My grandfather was a longtime Cedarville board member and remains one emeritus. Every time he calls over there the leadership assures him everything is all good. One of my uncles who recently retired as professor there begs to differ.

Theologically Liberty & Cedarville have always been fairly closely aligned. So watching this go down is of particular interest from a Liberty perspective.

Sly - it sounds like you have some inside connections, but you are mistaken about CU being affiliated with the SBC. CU is an independent school, affiliated with no denomination. A number of years ago the SBC in Ohio looked to start their own school and visited CU. During the visit, they became convinced that CU was a good school and recommended to their churches that they support CU financially and with sending students. Liberty is much more closely tied to the SBC than CU... As is TRBC.

All it takes to be affiliated with the SBC is to sponsor at least one missionary from the Coop. That's how TRBC unwittingly found itself a voting member of the SBC a few years back without ever trying. Yes, Cedarville's relationship with the SBC is very loosely connected. And most of the current board members and administrators date back to the GARBC days. While they are Independent Baptist in nature, they are far from IFB.

Sly, when you say relatives claim they are diluting their doctrines in pursuit of relevance, are you saying they are doing so too much? Couldn't it be said they had plenty of room for dilution?

It could be stated there was some wiggle room. The general complaint is that in their pursuit of recognition in academia they have greatly relaxed their core doctrinal stances. Whether that is a fair assessment or not is open to debate. I think most everyone involved agrees that legalism was a bit strong at one point and had room for adjustment. But where some of my family are concerned is in regard to things that were defined a few years ago as post-modernism and a perceived focus shift from evangelism to personal enlightenment. Everything I am sharing is second-hand info at best. Many of my Cedarville alumni family & friends have become avid supporters of Liberty because of our perceived adherence to old Cedarville doctrinal positions. Of course, some of those same folks have been concerned with a few of the convo speakers the past couple of years. So factor that into your views.
