But it's the wrong kind of people. We don't want people from other screwed up states moving here and screwing us up. Get out, and stay out

In all seriousness, just look at North Carolina, and how much it's changed. And not for the better.

I'm sure anyone from Texas can tell you the story about outsiders moving to Texas, and subsequently complaining about everything.

Nope, we Texans love all the best & brightest from the Rust Belt moving down here and helping our economy.

I'm still trying to get my mind around Virginia only having a population of 8 million. Living in a metro of 5 million that just startled me a bit considering the slew of metros in the Commonwealth.

From a per capita perspective, I'll bet Lynchburg is among the leaders along with Charlottesville. The majority of the rest of the growth appears to be east of the`

Hey, I'm moving out to VA from California in July. Some of us are like pilgrims, leaving our messed up state looking for something else. We're not all "wrong kind of people." :)

Also a carpetbagger here... Folks up there vote for a bunch of commy crap, ruin their state, see property elsewhere, move there to take advantage of it, and proceed to vote for the same garbage that ruined their previous residence, not making the connection. It's a Virginia problem.

I didn't say all of them. Just don't raise our taxes, and you're okay :D

Of course, it's amazing to watch the diaspora from CA to other states like NV, CO, MT, AZ, and to a lesser extent, UT. And of course, TX.

Hey I don't mind a side of granola, next to my pound of animal flesh and I do love trees. I love them because burning them keeps me warm and I can build a house or any number of things out of their remains.

YR - you sound like you've already been taking redneck lessons. Ease up on the granola sides though. I recommend beans (pintos or snaps) and corn bread.

Having grown up in New York State (yes I'm one of those, but have been here far longer now than there) I have heard the same things for years. Upstate is largely rural and agricultural, but all the influences on state government favor NY city. High taxes on farmland to benefit urban dwellers was a complaint that I heard from the time I was old enough to know what taxes were.
