Gun Discussion

I know there's alot going on at the moment regarding Gun Control. In light of that, I thought I'd start a conversation about guns to learn a little more about which brands/models are best before I make a purchase.

At the moment I'm leaning towards the Sig-P2022 9mm. I'd like to ensure that my wife is able to shoot this as well. Anyone have any thoughts/considerations for me?

I've actually been looking at the same one (2022). Quality brand and very economical. I was hoping to save up soon to get it, but then the clutch in my car went out. Still, people seem to like that model.

I know very little about guns. But I think the most important question about which one to purchase is, what do you want it for/what are you going to do with it? If you're going elephant hunting, that one probably wouldn't be good.

I may go the used route seeing as how little it will be used outside of practice.

the majority of guns i've purchased along with my family have been used. pretty reliable. gander mountain locally always has a great selection here.

391 eureka cost 1/2 of what a brand new one cost. i also picked up my browning bps at about 60% the cost of a new one.

I wish we had a Gander Mountain nearby... I was looking at their stuff online and it seems they have a rather large inventory.

I'm stuck with small dealers outside of town, who for the most part don't carry the sig p2022.

I did see the XD series by Springfield RM. I was considering that one as well because the grip feels smaller, which would make it easier for the wife to use.

for the wife, i'd look at a subcompact. like a ruger lc9. whats nice is that it has a built in laser. point click.

i'm still pretty terrified of giving my wife a weapon though. it may save her from danger but any hesitancy could put her in even more danger.

Very true. I've told her that she's going to have to shoot it at least once a week for a while, until it becomes 2nd nature to use it. The last thing I want is for her to have to worry about how to use it, God forbid she ends up in a situation that calls for it.

Gander Mountain in Roanoke has the largest on hand inventory of any dealer in the state.

I have a Kel-Tech P11 that I hate.

and by hate, I mean absolutely hate.

I'd be better off throwing it at you if you are beyond 5 yards

Yes, deer mainly, a little small game hunting mixed in when I can find the time. Wish I could get into gun collecting more but sending 3 to college has depleted all resources.

Here's the story on Gander Mtn's expansion in Roanoke:

http://www2.wsls.com/news/2012/sep/25/r ... r-2233851/
Gander Mountain wants to be known for two things, firearms and footwear.

The Roanoke County store in Hollins is taking a big step towards reaching that goal.

During its latest expansion Gander Mountain doubled it's footwear and more than tripled its firearm supply.

They now carry around 4,000 firearms, making the Roanoke Co. store the largest retailer in the Commonwealth.

Store manager Randy Bronson has overseen the expansion.

"Gander Mountain's been known for firearms for years and we really wanted to make a statement," he said. "This is where the future is for our company.both in the footwear and firearms business. It's just a huge boost."

a good low end ak. i fired a post ban egyption maadis ak a few months back. really nice. i'd probably prefer an AR or M1 over an AK but they are nice weapons.
