While I was in Seminary, I joined Amazon Student and received a prime membership for free. Amazon is offering a similar promotion right now. In addition to free two day shipping, you also have access to free movies and tv shows through Amazon. It's worth taking a look at if you haven't already done so.

And after the one year free deal ends, you can get Amazon Prime 50% off. Oh, and if you have a .edu address but aren't a student, you can still get it. At least that's how it works for me seeing as how I haven't been a student since 2010...

Check it out and see what it says. FWIW - I am also a member of "Amazon Mom," which is open to all parents, grandparents, and other childcare providers. I love Amazon Prime, but would be reluctant to pay $80. We were able to renew in December for $39. This allows us to purchase most anything on Amazon, with free two-day shipping. Amazon normally has free shipping… when you spend $25 AND it's 5-10 delivery. Not good for diapers. Amazon Prime is especially good during Christmas… there are many "flash" sales. If you didn't have prime, you would either have to quickly add more to your cart or pay for shipping… negating any benefit to the sale.

I really like the new Prime Instant Video, which I watch on my Roku & Sony Blu-Ray player. For me, it doesn't replace Netflix, but supplements it. [Netflix interface is much better… but once you start watching a video, who cares].

Did someone just compliment the Netflix interface? It's awful.

Oh, and if you don't qualify for the student membership, Amazon is now offering the Prime membership month-to-month, just like Netflix, so you don't have to cough up the full $79 for the year.

Which Netflix interface? It is a different one for every device I use. Other than the red color scheme, the interfaces for every device are completely different.

I've been using the Xfinity app through our Xbox 360 and rarely even bother with Netflix except on our iPad.

Oh and the free instant video? Unless something has changed, not available to you during the one year of free Amazon Prime Student. You have to fork over the cash to get the free instant video
