RIP Sundae Grill

I got a very sad email today from one of my favorite restaurants (and my wife's as well):

A heartfelt goodbye to everyone...from all of us here at the Sundae Grill.

It has taken a few days for everything to sink in but in a nut shell and in a few words ...the SUNDAE-GRILL WILL NOT RE-OPEN FOR 2013. WE ARE CLOSED.

You all know by now that we loved having you...loved serving you your favorite dishes...and if we could... we would be here for you for many many more years 24/7. (24/6) :)

We have been so very very fortunate to get to know so many of you by name and all of you by your smiling faces. And while our wait staff thanks you for your generous tips... our kitchen staff thanks you for your compliments. And of course...last but not least... we thank you for your many, many years of business!

It was one of the favorite places for me to go this past summer and for the wife and I to go when we were looking for a cheap date.

Every time I saw that it was still open, I was surprised.

Why is that? I liked the place.

It was just restaurant warehouse food. Order it from a catalog and heat it up. Not bad but nothing you can't get everywhere else. They did have a lot of ice cream though, which is nice.

Proto's Bloop Yogurt killed it!

Doubt it...they didnt just serve ice cream (and the Candlers Station Bloop wasnt all that busy even before the one on Wards Road opened)

I'm fairly certain it is. The owner has been talking for a couple of years about expanding over towards LU. My guess is that the "express" part will mean it will focus on Pizza rather than some of the other menu items.

I know it's been open for a while but I went to the La Villa Express last week and it was pretty awesome. The pizza was pretty good. I liked it better than all of the other italian places around here. Not some crummy thin NY style. But it's also super cheap too. You can get a large 1 topping pizza and 2 sodas for $10.

I agree. My wife takes our son there just about every week with a few friends.

Maybe you guys will start voting for La Villa for Pizza during the "best of" next summer... It wasn't even on the list this year.

Ya, heard La Villa is pretty great - and fast.
