Good, I hate every union I am familiar with. Seems like all of them are designed to do nothing more than spend money on political ads and do everything possible to get employees increasingly less work every time they ask for more money or more benefits.

What is that I hear? The sound of a little rust getting kicked off the old Edsel? It's about time.

Actually, I must somewhat correct myself. I have a very vague familiarization with the Kroger union. How? My brother used to work for Kroger. Why do I not hate the Kroger union? When he worked there a year ago, he could get complete health insurance coverage (including dental and vision) for $5 a week because the union subsidized it.

Not to harp on it, but there's no true thing as a subsidy. Someone, somewhere has to pay that amount.

Good day for liberty. Good news when everything seems to be going wrong in this country.

I hate unions as well. On the other hand, I wish I could be in a teachers' union since I haven't had a raise in 6 years and they are planning on cutting my salary, retirement, and health benefits for the next 3 years. I could always complain, but then I'd be looking at an indefinite tenure as the in-school suspension coordinator at one of our low-income high schools...

Or you could move further south where they offer signing bonuses to meet the demand of teachers and especially coaching teachers.

The Lone Star State ... at least it was the case when I last checked two years ago. Since the floodgates of Yankees moving down here continues unabated I would assume that the bonuses would still be in play. New schools open up around here practically non-stop in spite of the tax revenue drop that came with the real estate bubble bursting.

Beware ... the ridiculously low cost of living and no need of heavy clothing can be tempting. Resist the temptation so I can have more space to myself.

Looks like the bonuses still apply in Houston
$5000 incentives are currently available for teachers in critical shortage areas including: Bilingual (Spanish), Spanish, secondary math, secondary science, and special education areas such as Autism, Life skills, Preschool Program for Children with Disabilities, DeafEd, and Behavior Support.

I'm all for some Dairy Queen bonus!

Why does a secondary school system have to advertise math or science as secondary courses? That's like a college saying they are offering bonuses for teaching college courses...

Because it's not a secondary school system (whatever that is). It's a normal school system which includes elementary and middle schools.

If a tea party person said something like this we would have 24 x 7 coverage for a week.
