Our Quiz Bowl team is heading up to the University of Maryland on Saturday for a tournament. Do any locals or frequent visitors to Maryland have any seafood restaurant recommendations (esp. for crab cakes)? We're staying in College Park but could travel up to Baltimore for a good meal.

Too bad the O's won't be playing at home Saturday or I would say Camden Yards!

I'm considering a tour of the Camden Yards. Too bad Boog's BBQ isn't open on off days.

If you do go, I believe there is a Phillips Seafood restaurant at Inner Harbor but I've never eaten at that one.

McCormick and Schmicks is pretty good and right on the Harbor. Great crabcakes.

And would drain the Quiz Bowl budget for the next 5 years!

If you can, do the Joe's Crab Shack experience. McCormick and Schmicks is a really good option as well.

Joe's is an average seafood chain. Definitely not the place to go for authentic Maryland-style seafood.

Cider,
You HAVE to go to G&M. Best crabcake in MD hands down. No filler, all jumbo lump. Here is their site

Try out this place called Red Lobster. They have the BEST cheese biscuits you'll ever try. Sometimes they have all you can eat shrimp too, if you're into that type of thing.

Straight from Cheddar Bay. Doesn't get fresher than that.

I can't believe nobody has mentioned Long John Silver's. Heck of a deal.

YESYESYESYES
Make the trip to Phillips at the harbor. Well worth it. Fort McHenry is within walking distance, too

They are not good. They use crabs farmed from Indonesia, not Maryland. Local places are better than those tourist traps.

I've had Phillips before--NASTY stuff! Frozen crab cakes, not fresh.
Bob also told me about Hellas, and that's where the team is headed Saturday for dinner:

Yes, but they make you check the rods and reels at the door.
