Ambassador to Libya, three other Americans killed in response. Islam, religion of peace? I think not.

Fight for your family's freedom? Nah, who cares. Rage against ambassadors over a goofy spoof of your religion that in no way affects your life or your personal faith? Grab the AK!
This part of the world is so backwards. You're tempted to just leave them to their own idiocy but if you give them enough alone time they'll go and do something destructive that does affect us.

yeah I got to wake up to see Christiane Amanpour running her fat mouth on ABC.
wanted to go thru the screen and punch her in the face when she told Stephanopoulos "well yes there is freedom of religion in this country but the Supreme Court has ruled you can't yell fire in a crowded theater".
oh, so someone publicly disagreeing with another's choice of religion is now equated with a criminal act, or worse- one step shy of domestic terrorism?
her point was that people shouldn't have the right to post those types of videos because the political situation over there is too unstable right now.
No- they just need to learn not to live like animals.
she makes me sick.

You guys seriously believe this video was the cause of any of this? Does that make any sense?

Have you paid attention to the Middle East the last 50 years? This is definitely enough to get some of the more wacko Muslim groups to stir things up and start killing people. They're looking for any excuse and we've got just enough stupid pastors with too much influence/not enough sense to give them an excuse.

I feel the protests in Egypt could've been in response to the video. And at first, I believed the attack in Libya could have been triggered by the weak response by our embassy in Egypt: "If all they're going to do is issue a weak apology, let's take it up a notch!"
But the more I hear about the attack in Libya, the more premeditated it seems. This, it could be a result of a much more Big Picture lenient foreign policy.
Regardless, the discussion regarding American values is for later. If any nation-state perpetrated an attack such as the one in Libya, it would be considered a clear act of war. I understand it's murky in this instance because it appears to have been committed by a civilian and/or terrorist group. But how do we respond?
To me, the statement issued by the US embassy in Egypt is an example of a measly and infrared foreign policy in that region. It also marks a clear disconnect at least in communication between the current administration in the White House and assets abroad.
If this escalates, could it become Obama's Jimmy Carter Moment?

Great response from the prez channeling Jimmy Carter. The only way to deal with these radicals is by way of Reagan not Carter. Apologies are cheap but ineffective...cruise missles while not so cheap are much more effective.
As someone who served over 29 years in the military, Reagan was right...Peace through Strength!

So they planned a raid of a place is such a short time?? No...
However, the people who have been planning this used that movie to help justify their cause to the people of Libya. That is for sure

I was at home yesterday watching kids and working on my car. For me, that means not much access to anything. This just seems like a really dumb scapegoat to me. Why is it this video never got any kind of publicity before these attacks? Because nobody knew about it, perhaps? I just don't buy that we can just chalk this all up to a youtube video.

Exactly. It was the excuse, not the reason, for the attack. These groups are sitting around, stirring things up, and just waiting until someone does something that they can spin as even moderately offensive to try and pull something like this off. Obviously not a legitimate reason, but certainly enough in their minds to serve as an excuse.

but the movie was not the reason for the attack. The attack was planed for a while and the movie was used after the fact as justification for it. The movie had absolutely nothing to do with the attack. To say that is simply being ignorant or just choosing to ignore the facts.

I'm not saying it makes sense, but Islamic protest of media is fairly often and insane.
However, I agree that the video probably isn't what actually caused the embassy attack, but I'm not sure it matters now. Now that the theocratic Islamic culture is aware of it, that's all that matters. It will be their rallying point.
I find it frustrating that free speech is a concept so unacceptable to that kind of culture, but I get it. For them there's no reason such a video should exist. If it happened here and our government didn't stop it, our entire country is responsible. It's the result of minds conditioned to living under theocratic rule. There isn't much that's more dangerous, IMO.
And this is why I always side with civil liberties.

I agree with you, but let's focus on retaliation and deal with the philosophy behind the uprising later.
Maybe the ships relocating toward Libya and drone procedures are a start. But if Obama doesn't get this right, it could be a big nail in the coffin of his Presidency.

Now they can't get the story straight. Apparently it was a planned spontaneous demonstration that they didn't have knowledge of a week before but are not directed at the USA but only Amercia and an Egyptian film maker!
