I thought it was notable enough to mention that Lecrae's newest album debuted at #1 on iTunes, and he's being featured on Time.com (whatever that is).

Here's a review:

And I'll just get this out of the way.... he's from Houston. That's in Texas.

You could have stopped at Houston. Mrs. Sly has gotten into his music in recent days. Isn't it crazy to have him bumping tobyMac out of the top spot?

It's easier to listen to song-by-song on Youtube, but here's the whole album in one shot.

He added a little more edge to this CD. His earlier stuff is a little more peppy/dance-y, but he seems to be getting noticed and respected by the hip-hop people.

I'm a big fan.

I remember back in the days when I was sort of embarrassed to let my friends hear my gospel rap collection. It wasn't that I was ashamed of my faith. I was embarrassed because a lot of the Holy Hip-Hop back then was straight garbage. You can blame some of the artists with biblical nicknames, but it was more because of the wack, 'cheesy' lyrics with Casio-style beats. The pundits said "Well, that's ok because they're rapping about Jesus!".... No, It's not ok!

Lecrae is the best Christian rapper out there right now, hands down. I'm happy that we have this type of talent rapping positive lyrics.

Trip Lee, Toby Mac and Lecrae are all 1 ABC to me right now. I hated christian rap and hip hop period until a year or so ago. Now i really like some of there stuff, they really take pretty good stands on controversial issues, especially within the so called hip hop culture.

Just wanted to note that Lecrae is solidly maintaining the #1 hip-hop album slot in the iTunes store. That's pretty impressive.

I have always been a fan of both T-Bone and KJ52 (actually met the latter at Winterfest a couple years ago) but Lecrae is definitely one of the better ones out there.

please never say KJ52 and Lecrae in the same sentence ever again. I feel dirty even mentioning both

KJ52 is a nice guy and all but he is a joke of a rapper who tried to use Eminem as a way to get credibility

Haha. Mr. Boney Bone Corleone!

I had the pleasure of listening to his music back in the late '90s. It was my first experience listening to his style of gospel rap. Needless to say, I was like this... :? Killing demons?!?!... What the heck is this mess?... My friend gave me a T-Bone cassette tape, but he did not mention his rugged style. After I gave my friend his tape back, he explained T-Bone's story... I've been a fan of his music ever since.

And since I'm on the subject of gospel rap pioneers... I was wondering if anyone in the lounge ever heard of a group called the Cross Movement? 8)

While I definitely agree with what you wrote, they did do a song together that was pretty decent...

and IMHO Lecrae's Gravity is alright. His mixtape Church Clothes (which had over a million downloads in 3 days) and Rebel are still my two favorite albums put out by him

Da Truth's album The Whole Truth is easily the best christian rap album I have ever heard. I gave up on christian rap like 15 years ago because it was so corny however this guy and Lecrae are legit

This short video with Lecrae and John Piper will probably make you like Lecrae even more. I actually first heard him through Piper's podcast series themed around his Don't Waste Your Life material.
