Has anyone started tinkering with this yet?

I've got to say, Microsoft seems to finally realize they're way behind the game as far as cloud/online integration and updated features. I don't know if they'll make up the market share that Google Docs has already carved out, but at least they're finally getting the point and making some sweeping changes to look and function.

too bad that windows 8 is an abomination though. i installed the windows 8 preview on a second laptop and it is a complete train wreck unless you like the whole idea of having a tablet OS on a computer...

It runs on Windows 7.

I know. That doesn't change Windows 8 though.

many people already use dropbox for such a thing. and skydrive is awful. i can't possibly see how they can improve on save as to my dropbox folder. syncs with any computer or device i have dropbox installed on, no need for the newest version of office on everything. just like in the mobile world, they were too slow to evolve and dropped the ball on cloud storage.

if it competes with google docs it should easily dominate in due time due to how awful google docs is....if its free...but it won't be. i know for certain our company will move to it. google docs and mail has been Meh from a corporate perspective

Interesting. Several local and Federal government offices in DC are moving to Google Docs because they're so much more functional and reliable than anything Microsoft has done. I know for sure DOJ lawyers and the GAO both do everything collaboratively in Google Docs now and only transfer to Microsoft when they have to. Same thing with DC public schools.

more functional? how so? only from a cloud and sharing perspective perhaps but all of that is solved by network fileservs. most entities I know who move to google anything is because of the cost savings. not having to buy corp licenses for office and purchase exchange and employ people to manage it. that's the #1 reason my clients switch to google.

thankfully not many business fashion their decision making after the government.

If anyone thinks google docs is more functional, they don't have any clue what the heck they are talking about. The fact that they have to transfer to Microsoft sometimes tells you right there it isn't as functional. If it was equally as functional or more functional, they wouldn't need to use Microsoft at all.

That could be solved in an even simpler way: dropbox. Install it on every machine that needs it with the same account and everyone has access to the documents.
