A Burger King ad featuring hip-hop soul star Mary J. Blige singing about Crispy Chicken Snack Wraps was widely criticized around the web for playing on stereotypes–and now the singer says the spot was actually unfinished. In a statement to the Associated Press, Blige said, ”I agreed to be a part of a fun and creative campaign that was supposed to feature a dream sequence.Unfortunately, that’s not what was happening in that clip, so I understand my fans being upset by what they saw. But, if you’re a Mary fan, you have to know I would never allow an unfinished spot like the one you saw to go out.” The video, which went viral on Monday, was pulled down by Burger King after viewers began to complain. According to Burger King, the reason the spot was yanked from the Web was because the ad was “released prematurely before all of the licensing and final approvals were obtained.” Burger King wrote in a statement to AP, “we would like to apologize to Mary J. and all of her fans for airing an ad that was not final. We know how important Mary J. is to her fans, and we are currently in the process of finalizing the commercial. We hope to have the final ad on the air soon.” Burger King did not immediately respond to a request for comment by Speakeasy.
Well, it appears I won't be going to Burger King anymore. Just pathetic. Oh, not the ad, just the fact that Burger King gave into the race vultures.

I guess blacks aren't allowed to like chicken?

Oh good gravy...why did I know that youd be the one to post this man...I mean as a black person who grew up outside of a lot of these stereotypes, I find a lot of these bothersome because it undermines black people who actually come from stable families and are able to make something of themselves in this country, instead of what is being portrayed, but how come youre the only one who posts these articles when they come up?

Beej, the reason I post this stuff is because it is the so-called "black leaders" who are spreading poverty and misery for blacks in America.

Essentially, it's because I care about my fellow Americans. Just as you do. And you know that when I post these stories, of course you agree because your family raised you right. As did mine.

Why is it racist whenever a black person advertises chicken? DOn't most people, other then vegetarians and vegans, like chicken regardless of skin color/ethnicity? I can't even remember the last time I met a non-vegetarian/vegan that didn't like chicken.

Bigger question: Why is Burger King using a washed up Mary J. Blige to begin with?

C'mon, you can't insult Mary J Blige. The woman can sing.

It's racist Burger King used Mary J Blige period.... it plays on the stereotype that black people look at entertainment (music & sports) as the only way out of poverty and into the rich life.
