Just found out someone in the church is selling a washer and dryer for cheap. It's a 2.5 year old Kenmore 800 series for $350 total. Good deal? Good product? You guys know more than me.

sounds good. Don't know anything about the model, but the price is very good.

we've always bought all kenmore appliances and have never been sorry.

good stuff- esp if they have stainless steel drums. Either way, not a bad price for the set.

double check the hoses tho for cracks. not expensive to replace them.

Generally we have great experiences with the Kenmore washers/dryers. A quick google of this series shows some unhappy customers with the washers, specifically the auto water level and saying it was ruining their clothes. Most of them complaining within a year of buying it. If the people selling them are trustworthy, I would ask them if they have experienced any issues at all. We have a Kenmore set that is about two years old (not sure if it's the 800 series) and we love them. For the price, you probably couldn't go too wrong if the people are honest with you.

ps - My buddy sells these for a living, I tried contacting him, will let you know what he says - he'll be straight up about them.

online user reviews are some of the most awful things to read on appliances. when a product works you don't think about it and because of this, generally don't go online to post reviews. most reviews are within weeks of the person purchasing the unit and they usually post an experience that is some odd ball problem that isn't indicative of a model wide problem.

we were in the market for a washer and dryer like 2 years ago. consumer reports had decent reviews and a good rating on a GE set that was in our price range.

i go to sears and its got like 30 reviews and like 1.5 stars out of 5. i'm like screw that i'm no buying that one. so i'm researching online and other sites are recommending them as well. so i go look at the reviews and most of them are

*DID NOT HAVE IN STOCK ON BLACK FRIDAY!!!!"

crap like that. wtf people.

my parents use anything sears and generally have not had any problems with kenmore. i'd say at that price, its a safe bet.

Agreed about the online reviews - I read them only to see if there is a recurring theme with a particular product. My feeling is most of them probably are not using the machine properly, loading too much in, etc. Again I would put a lot more stock in what the seller can tell you, if you can trust them.

we bought a fridge a few months ago. the reviews online were awful for it. apparently the ice maker was a complete hunk of crap. i was like, alright, lets see what else is out there. the trend i noticed was that every fridge with an ice maker regardless of the brand had horrible ratings. more research and i noticed that all the icemakers that go into fridges are made by the same 3 companies. and when you combine moving parts, electricity in frigid conditions, you have things break. its just going to happen.

It's a relatively new set by a name-brand. Unless you want some LG run by three microprocessors that will talk to your dishwasher tell you when your coffee's done, they're all basically the same and will get the job done. What you need to consider is the price, and that's a good price for something that new. If it's someone you trust, buy it before some college kid does.

I'd say it's a very good deal, although I'd offer $300. I've had good luck with Kenmore. Depending on size, the units probably retailed for $400+ each.

As long as it is running properly, that's a very reasonable price.

Now I've just gotta come up with $350 on top of everything else. Wonder who I can beg into giving it to me as a wedding present.

Her mom is selling us an entire living room suit, dining room table, and chairs for $500. She's already giving us a steal on that.

My advice? Get a real job and quit playing with kids all day. Then you might actually make some money.

Ha. We haven't talked since my role changed.

Youve got some very good in-laws to be Jon...I was gonna add that my family has used Kenmore for the washer and dryer since we moved to Portsmouth and havent had any issues other than the usual wear and tear, and the price cant be beat either.
