Where's the best place to look for a good deal for the Honeymoon? Right now my travel agent is quoting about $1,600 per person for 6 nights an the all inclusive in the tropics. Is that about right? I rather do a cruise but we've done that before a few times so talking her into it for the honeymoon isnt likely

All you need is a bed. Well, I guess you don't even need that.

It's been several years since I researched for this topic, but I was really attracted to Cabo San Lucas. They don't have all-inclusives, but the spa resorts are very nice and (at the time) were reasonably priced.
If you're looking for the most bang for your buck (which is okay, it's your honeymoon!), a place like Belize can be a lot of fun.

My only suggestion is to make sure that you go someplace where there are things to see and do.

We're going to Cape Cod. Spending five nights on the actual Cape and then one night in Boston.

I hear Provincetown is absolutely fabulous any time of the year.

Can't tell if that's serious or a sarcastic gay joke. Either way, I agree.

My travel agent just got fired. Thanks for the info Bl....I'm gonna need to keep an eye on that. Problem is I think I'm a little to far out to be booking it.

Never been but I hear Cotsa Rica is where it's at. And cheap. Or at least it was. I think it's getting more popular so that probably has changed.

We did a week at the excellence punta cana, and with airfare and transport to and from resort, it was 2600 total for the all inclusive.
SJ, the cape is nice, but plymouth rock is a serious let down.

There are some good rates for Haiti!

Actually Labadee is amazingly gorgeous.
2 words. Las Vegas. There are some incredible places outside the Strip. Gives you the solitude you need but also great access to world class food and shows!

And SJ, make it a point to make a day trip down to Newport, RI. Not a let down.

We considered going to the Sandals Resort in St. Lucia, but it was too pricey for what we wanted to spend. We also considered going to Costa Rica and staying at at one of the hot springs resorts near the Arenal Volcano, but I lost my passport from when I went there in 2000, and didn't feel like going through all the trouble of getting a new one. We finally went to a travel agent to get some ideas, and she suggested Lake Tahoe, which we went during the summer. The trip was unbelievable and I'm definitely glad we went. We pretty much stayed in the area for the whole week except for a couple of days where we went to San Francisco/Cal Coast and Virginia City in Nevada. If I would've changed anything we would have went camping a couple of days at Emerald Bay (southern end of Tahoe) and Yosemite National Park (would've saved money that way as well). I would definitely check out Tahoe and Costa Rica online.

What season are you considering? That would impact my suggestions.
As for whether you prefer strictly escapism or more of a traditional touristy honeymoon I think you need to ask yourselves the following:
1. Does where we go really matter as much as just being away together as newlyweds?
2. How often do you see an excuse arising to go somewhere fabulous in the next 5 years?
The latter really needs to be considered because you might think we can hit Europe or Brazil in a few years. But life has a way of bringing up things that make setting aside time & resources challenging.
I haven't been to Belize yet but it is on our bucket list. And right now the rates in the Caribbean are very reasonable.
We're heading to Europe in 2013 on my miles for our 15th. Our last getaway as a couple from the kids was our 10th.

Our 10th is in April. Considering Bermuda, but might opt to take a week in the Charleston and Savannah areas. Go all 5 star and live like the rich and famous... that is what we did for our honeymoon, though we were in Montreal and Quebec City.

Montreal & Quebec are actually places we are considering for our family road trip in 2013 along with Niagara & New England.
I haven't been to Bermuda but I have friends who rave about their experiences. April is probably warm enough to fully enjoy the beaches but I'm not sure I'd try March.

If you do Niagra I would HIGHLY recommend spending a day at Niagara on the Lake. It is a nice little hamlet. Great parks and walking area. Fort Niagra is there and it the best place to grab a jet boat tour of the river and whirlpools. Great restaurants, shops for the wife and kids, eating places for you. Let me know when you go next year !

You won't regret it. Driving through Quebec is like being in France, very surreal. Time it for late Spring or early Fall. Of course, everyone'll need passports for Canada now, they weren't required last time I drove up there.

...and it is a lot harder to live like the rich and famous with a weak dollar. When we went, the exchange was a bit over .60 to the loonie.

I've been watching cheapcarribean for a while for my honeymoon, but right now all the deals are for March/April so I'm still waiting.
BLWall, I'm assuming you had a good experience with cheap carribean? Anything to watch out for? Hidden fees?

March-April as well as the fall are when you'll find the best deals moving forward. Avoid the summer and any holidays like the plague.
