A Sea Of Red

Which would you recommend? Nook Tablet seems better on the surface, but I'm not overly familiar with the two. Much more familiar with the iPad, but that thing is $600 and is out of the question. If there are any other legitimate competitors that don't cost much more than the Fire/Tablet, then let me know.

I can't really say which is better, but I did buy myself the Kindle Fire and it is A-W-E-S-O-M-E. It has really fast response time, and being able to download apps and surf the internet is really great on top of the reader.

Have you installed teh update yet?

I might wait until the spring in the event an iPad 3 comes out. I'm sure I'll be able to then get the iPad 2 on the cheap then.

Biggest difference is the lack of an SD slot in the Fire. Without a WiFi connection, you're limited to whatever you've got on the device itself in both cases -- problem is, the Fire is limited to 8GB onboard with no SD card. The Nook tablet is upgradeable to (IIRC) 32 GB thanks to the SD slot. Of course, I've got an 8GB Touch right now that is rarely full (though I probably could fill 32GB if I had it. I don't miss it, though).

To run everything available in the Android Market, you've got to modify both tablets a little bit, but there are plenty of instructions online to do that, and they look pretty easy to do.

The storage space isn't much of a concern with me. 8 GB should be sufficient. I don't want to watch movies on them (that's what a TV is for) and don't want to play music on it (that's what the iPod is for). Even if I wanted to play music on it, there is Pandora, Google Music (I have all my music on there), Amazon MP3 (have all my music on there as well), etc. If I can't be online, I can just use the iPod.

Yeah I did, when I first got it it did have slowish response time on the touch screen occasionally, not very often though and that's solved now. Great product, got one for my wife for Christmas.

The ONLY thing I don't like so far about my new one (got it last night, in fact!) is that there is no volume controls on the device itself -- you can only change the volume via the slider that's in the software. Other than that, it's pretty good.

I think I might go with the kindle because of all the benefits of Amazon Prime for a Kindle Fire user.

I'm not overly impressed with the video selection from Amazon Prime right now, but that's probably just me.

It does let you download the netflix app, so that helps out a ton with the selection
