Instagram, the hugely popular iPhone photography app that evokes 1970s style, has announced it’s finally developing an Android app.

The company believes its membership base of 50 million could double with its Android launch, CNET reports.

I never saw it announced by Le Web ... just rumors online. It still doesn't list a target date.

I still don't understand why this is a big deal. Android has had other photo apps that do similar things for a while.

But those apps were only camera filters and not part of a real community. It is the photo-sharing aspect of Instagram that has always been the best feature of the iPhone in relation to top tier Android phones. You can scratch that iPhone advantage. Come to think of it, it is tougher to identify much of any advantage other than showing off a tiny screen on a 3G phone to friends.
