iPhone 4S

Did anyone here get one? The wife and I ordered them and they're scheduled to arrive today. Our AT&T contract is up and we decided to make the switch to Sprint (we get an 18% discount as teachers). We thought about sticking it out with our 3GS models for a little while, but the upgrade to iOS 5 slowed them down so much it was infuriating. Thoughts?

I'd like to get one now that it's available on Sprint, just waiting for a good deal. It's really the only phone I've seriously considered to replace my Pre, I just really don't like Android that much (although ice cream sandwich does basically rip off most of the stuff that made webOS so awesome). And now that the iPhone isn't completely dependent on itunes, it makes it a whole lot more attractive.

I'm not typically an Apple guy (mostly because they're so expensive), but I loved my 3GS. I considered going with an Android, but I have too many apps that wouldn't transfer over. I'm excited to try out Siri. Now I'm just waiting for UPS to get here.

I tried using Siri at the Sprint store, and it was horrible. It couldn't understand anything I said. However, there was a lot of backround noise, and I've heard that Siri actually has to learn how you speak before it gets real effective. It's a great concept, though.

My boss has one and loves it. Siri works most of the time (some things it obviously can't answer) and recognizes his voice in normal conversational tone. The biggest thing he likes about Siri is vocal reminders instead of having to type them and being able to send texts through voice instead of typing. Helps a lot when he's driving.
All that and the camera is freaking legit.

It's better than point and shoot cameras. Its camera is one of the best out there under the DSLR level.

Ask SMOOTHIE how impressed I was w/ his Siri app.
The time he spent shrieking into the phone like a wack job I couldve walked the 6 miles back to the house, watched the weather channel, and walked back to the game.
"the weather in Lynchburg. The weather. Weather. WEEEEEEEEHHHHHHHHHTHERRRRRRRRRR...... THUHHHHHHHHHHHHH WEHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHTHRRRRRRRRR. ah screwit"
this goes on for 20 minutes.
yeah... handy. schmuck. My Nextel works just fine thank you very much.

It's 8 megapix, with no zoom. The camera is still a phone camera. Now it can do things some point-and-shoot cameras can't because of the camera app and software. It's still a phone camera.

I have to get a phone this week as my 1st Gen Droid finally bit the dust last night. Even though I'm a Verizon guy, I have no interest in the iPhone 4S. Outside of Instagram, I really have a tough time seeing any advantage over similar Android handsets. I mean, come on ... is Siri the best Apple could do for an annual upgrade? Seriously?
I'm postulating a purchase between either the Droid Razr & the Galaxy Nexus. If not for the subpar camera in the latter, it would be a slam dunk for me. Both phones are better than the iPhone for me since I operate in the Google universe for my work. I'm disappointed that none of the major handset makers were able to integrate real gesturing into models before I had to buy. I still can't believe Apple could get that done in time for the 4S. The iPhone 5 should be a MAJOR step forward since they haven't had significant improvements now in close to two models. If you can hold out until the summer, I have a feeling you will be glad you did if you are an iPhone fanboy.

I went with i4s because my Blackberry was dying. The selling point for me honestly was the fact I could EASILY transfer my iTunes purchases to my phone since my iPod is also dying. I kmow there are programs that let you do that but prefer the ease of use this way andwhen you factor in time and frustration with those programs the extra100 bucks made it a wash IMO. IM very happy with it but agree that I was hoping for more of a WOW factor and it is my first iPhone. Went with the big memory one so that helps.

That is a perfectly rational reason to make the move. Certainly anything is a big step forward from BlackBerry.

Yeah but when I got the Blackberry, RIM was cutting edge!
I will say in defense of the SIRI it takes awhile to adjust to your vocal patterns. Similar to other talk n type programs. Still trying to master the whole 'Cloud' thing

Send texts via voice? I've been doing that on Android since before Siri was even announced, of course, I've only had an Android phone since the beginning of August...

I really like the 4S so far. Everything seems to work MUCH faster than on my old 3GS. The camera is great and Siri is pretty cool. Not sure how much I'll actually use it long term, but it has potential.

I actually think the battery life is much better than it was on the 3GS. I turned off cloud syncing except for the calendar and it made a huge difference.
