This kinda reminds me of the people who pray for our athletic teams to win (or any for that matter).

I don't think God truly cares about those things. Sure, we can ask God's blessing on our nation, but we must take steps to rebuild our nations economy first.

Its kinda like praying God will help you pass a test without studying for it. Don't be surprised if God doesn't answer those prayers.

Edit: I didn't realize this was a Perry slam piece before I posted, and that's not what Perry actually said. Also, I find the piece from Baylor interesting, as 62% believe in heaven, but only 51% believes in hell. I guess the missing 11% believe in sheol  what's even more concerning is the fact that if you take these numbers, between 1/3rd and 1/4th of "christians" don't even believe in heaven apparently.

Not trying to slam Perry. His prayer convention could be a legit thing. However, there is a some what scary movement going on in politics. That God can/will fix our problems. This concerns me.

God certainly can fix our problems if He so chooses. We certainly are to pray for our country and its leaders. The Bible is pretty plain though that God will bless those peoples/nations that honor Him. We are far from doing that right now and unless we turn to Him as a nation, I don't believe things will get any "better".

As believers in that nation however, we don't really need to rely on the economic health of our nation to experience the peace and joy that passes all understanding.

I wonder if the teaparty uprising in the politics is connected to the idea that God will "work it out". The tea party is primarily right wing Chiristians. They seem to be trying to take the human elements out of our economy.

If this is the case it is distrubing to think that God will "bail us out" if we pray hard enough.

I kind of feel that God will help us if we seek his will, but that God isn't going to just perform a miracle and overnight all things will be better.

Too many Christians seem to dip in to fatalistic thinking. I think it's a real problem.

As for the Tea Partiers, I don't like them so I'll just leave it at that.

God will help us out IF we are praying according to His will.

For years, I prayed for a big paycheck. I prayed it in all faithfulness, knowing God can answer and expecting Him to. Never got it. The name it, claim it folks would say my faith was too small. Not true -- I wasn't in line with what God wanted me to have.

Once I learned the whole "in all things be content" thing, I was happier and better off.

God cares less about the economic health of our nation than it's spiritual health. If that wasn't true, Jesus would have come to overthrow the Romans the way that everyone expected Him to.

If we believe that God is creator, we believe he has enough power and creativity to fix a few market problems.

However, knowing that the economy is the one thing Americans are most concerned with , and using God's ability to fix the problem if he chooses, to get votes is not a good option. Lets work on detailing our plans of action to get out of the crisis we find ourselves in.
