HP Touchpad Fire sale

OK, so I was tied up Saturday and didn't get one of the remaining Touchpads at retail outlets. I called around Sunday to the places where friends had scored theirs and they were all out of stock. So since last night I have been trolling slickdeals.net trying to find a place that has them in stock and is ready to ship.
This is maddening!
I'm currently on hold with zones.com who supposedly have them still in stock & shipping.
Has anyone been able to confirm that their online orders have shipped?
The few major online retailers who claim to have them (i.e. NewEgg, B&H) have bumped their prices up from $99 16GB/$149 32GB up to $399-$599. What a crazy ride. Rumor has it that Best Buy is waiting to see how many units are shipped back from their stores before they open up the floodgates once again.

I think you spelled "iPad" wrong.

I bought my wife one of those overpriced Apple products. Now she's locked into the Apple prison even further. I love her but feel sorry for her.
After 15 minutes on the phone with Zones.com at 800-408-9663, I was able to place an order for a 32GB at the $149 price (the 16GBs were already out of stock). They told me that I had my order placed in their system and that rep (who generally works large accounts) would call or email me tomorrow if they are going to be able to ship it to me.
UPDATE: Zones has apparently sold out now as well

It's funny, the retail prices have dropped to $99, but Amazon has kept their stock at full price ($399), and it's become the #1 seller in their electronics category. HP, you suck.
Supposedly Best Buy pulled them from the shelves and said they weren't going to sell them. Now, they've changed their minds, so you can now get them in the stores again and at BestBuy.com for $99. But, I think they may have sold out already.

Supposedly Best Buy stopped selling them in the stores over the weekend so they could ship all of them back to the warehouse for web orders. Tons of folks who made orders from BestBuy.com, Amazon, Barnes & Noble and others over the weekend have had their orders cancelled. So until one arrives at your front door, nothing is certain. I only risked Zones because they have an impeccable reputation and I feel strong that if I don't get the tablet then I'll get a full refund.

On another note, and quite a big one, did any see that HP also announced that they will no longer be making and selling computers? The biggest PC/laptop maker in the world is going to stop making computers. That's insane to me. It's only a matter of time before China buys up their PC/laptop business, ie IBM.

I have a bunch of friends at church and in neighborhood who work for HP (it was Compaq HQ & campus before HP began carving it up over the past decade) who are all now waiting on pink slips.
The PC world is going nuts and it is only just the beginning.

TouchDroid Project Aims To Make HP TouchPad The Fastest $99 Android Gingerbread/Ice Cream Sandwich Tablet
Unsold TouchPad stock to cost HP more than $100 million
Only costing you $100 million???? Google should pay $100 million for Samsung or someone else to do this. $100M is nothing in the grand scheme of things and everyone knows the money is in accessories and apps anyways...not to mention ads for Google. Heck $100M is the marketing budget for Battlefield 3!
This firesale has created sales and press unlike anything I've ever seen. The dev community is getting completely behind this product now and will put Android on it within the next couple of days....not to mention then I can put MIUI on this bad boy!
Oh and there are plenty of HP's to be had if anyone is interested in buying one. B&N has a ton in stock now (online at least) and I believe Best Buy just agreed to sell their inventory that they org were sending back (once they saw how huge this was they changed their mind quick)

Out of stock on bestbuy.com and b&n doesn't even list them as an item.

Keep checking the last page of the slickdeals thread they just posted this
http://www.zones.com/site/product/index ... =003821676
I went to the link and they had them in stock but their servers are getting crushed. Worst case I'll sell you one of mine. I think I might have a couple extras.

As I mentioned earlier in the thread, Zones ran out of 16GBs this morning before I got through and I got in an order on a 32GB before they supposedly closed that down as well. Everyone is suggesting that there will likely be plenty available in a couple of days once everyone is able to catch up to the crush of orders over the weekend.
That thread on SlickDeals.net is epic. It would add 5-6 pages in the time it took to read one page.

Anyone know the difference between $99 and the $513.99.

That's the sad thing about all this, other than the demise of webOS. This OS got almost no press from the tech community until this weekend. Kind of a shame.

Agreed, Alumnus. But until this fire sale, all the tablets were sitting in boxes not being used. So why would any developer waste their time?
For what it is worth, this is supposedly a place you can score one right now:

I know nothing about the place. But there it is.

Try to log in through the Liberty University IT Marketplace and you may get a better price 3% or 5% off because they are the official LU IT place and I believe Alumni can still get discounts.
Log in the LU portal and then go to IT and then Marketplace.
Very reputable dealer

Sly that link is broke. I'm assuming because they're sold out. Anybody know of any left? I'm always too slow to pull the trigger on these things

If you were worried that you missed out on your opportunity to get an HP TouchPad at the ridiculous price of $99 for the 16GB model or $149 for 32GB, then you're in luck. According to a tweet sent out by an HP employee and an article on International Business Times, HP has a warehouse full of devices that are ready to be shipped out to retail outlets in preparation for part two of the fire sale that's been going on the past few days.
No word on the number of TouchPads or other webOS devices that they have in stock, but if you keep hitting the HP website this week, you'll likely find that the "Out of stock" message is replaced with a "Buy now" option. Keep in mind that some retailers, like BestBuy, will no longer be selling the TouchPad even if there is more inventory available, so you'll want to watch other online outlets for news on continued discounts on the tablet device.
So while HP won't be creating any new devices to push into the highly demanding market, the TouchPad looks like it will be staying at the top of everyone's minds and shopping lists for at least a few more days. Whether you're at HP webOS Headquarters in Sunnyvale (like in the photo above) or checking some other retail store in your area, get in line with the rest of us. You won't want to miss out on what looks to be the last opportunity to get an HP TouchPad.
Best Buy in Lynchburg shipped all theirs back to HP. The guy told me that BB actually buys them for $100, so it wouldn't make any sense for them to sell them. Staples.com also had the super-cheap price, but they're out of stock. It might be worth checking a Staples in your area to see if they have any left. Otherwise, keep checking online.

Overall, the majority of reviews on the tablet have been negative with many critics saying the device struggles from both hardware and software issues.
Some technology gurus are arguing that although HP significantly reduced the price of its TouchPad, the devise is not worth purchasing at any price.
They argue that the technology is “crippled” and that there is no future for this product.
One such HP TouchPad critic, Harry McCracken, pointed out on Macro.org that the TouchPad is quite simply not a reliable piece of machinery and described his experience with the device.

I'm trying to decide what is worse ... a hater or an Apple elitist?
Still waiting for word from Zones to see if my 32GB is shipping. But they are West Coast so it is still early in the day.

That's overall ridiculous, especially since OpenOffice should be available for the Touchpad within a week. But honestly, the device was meant to be updated, and now that it won't, it doesn't have the potential that it should (especially with the Pre3 being pretty much cancelled). But not worth $100? That's just kinda dumb.

I was unsuccessful in all of my attempts to get one. Every time I had one ordered they said it was in stock, then a day or two later I got a cancellation order. No bueno. I need to take HMO up on the offer

Zones still says my order is being processed but it hasn't shipped yet. So I am still holding out hope ... albeit fading by each passing day.

I had quite a few orders cancelled. HP is going to manufacture more to "meet demand" at the same price too. Makes me think they arent losing money on this deal after all
