VA Beach Info

My family is heading down to VA Beach next week. We have never been and are looking for some info from those with experience.
First it is going to be a quick trip Fri/Sat.
We are planning on eating at Captain Georges Friday night.
Do you have any other recommendations/tips?
How about beach access / parking? How difficult to find a place to park on a Saturday?
Is it free / paid parking? If so, how much can I expect?
Do you have recommendations on what parts of the beach to go?
Best places to park etc?
Thanks!

There are a couple burrito places that are pretty good, but I can't remember the names. You're welcome!
Also, if you go to the spot where that big statue is (Neptune?), you can actually drive up and park on the beach, for free!

The boardwalk is cool, but the little theme park they had has closed up shop. Parking depends on where you go, like alumnus said you can park for free at the Neptune statue, otherwise you're looking at paying up to $20 for some lots. As for which parts of the beach, anywhere along the boardwalk is great, there are some who say that the Boardwalk has made VA Beach nicer than Myrtle Beach

(not sure I completely agree, but that's what some of my coworkers have said).

I was just kidding, I wanted to see if he'd really consider driving up onto the beach to park.

Pick up one of those tourist books and get a coupon for Captian George's. It will save you like 3-4 bucks per person.

You should've let him keep thinking that.

When you get to VA Beach, drive up to New Jersey.

It's a bit of a drive from the tourist Oceanfront area but if you're looking for something a little more quiet -- Sandbridge is worth it.
Also, Beach Bully BBQ is well worth it (

VA Beach dweller here...
My family heads south of Rudee Inlet to Croatan Beach. Parking is $5 for non-Beach residents unless you get there before 10:00 am, which, in that case, it's free. There are bathrooms and outdoor showers there, which is a huge plus for families. It is a local beach, so there are surfers all over the place, but their beach is separated by a fence, which is a little weird, but it's no big deal.
Review:

Directions: Head south from the resort area on Pacific Ave.
Go over the Rudee Inlett bridge (the road changes names to General Booth Blvd)
About 1/4 of a mile after the bridge, take a left on Croatan Rd.
Continue on this road for 1/4-1/2 mile and take a right on Vanderbilt Ave.
The parking lot is at the end of the road
Also...google maps helps

More info...
The Hilton area is great in the evenings. There is a playground on the beach (kids can't get enough of it) and there is live music most nights with a lot of dining options.
TDDance got it right...Beach Bully is a MUST after a day at the beach. GREAT bbq!
