If you haven't seen this, you need to see what a EF4 tornado looks like from a quarter of a mile away.
*Warning, the guy with the camera gets REALLY scared at one point and uses a little non-flamefan style language.
If you don't have a ton of time, skip to about 4:20 or so. Yikes.

The bad word comes at the moment he realizes what an idiot he has been trying to shoot video of that storm based on the damage left in its path. Wow.

Saw this one with my own eyes from about the same distance. The TV tower cam followed it in and I thought for sure it was going to track about a mile south of where it did. It to a slight jog to the north and came right through the busiest intersection it town. We were headed the basement when I looked up and watched it roll by just to the south of me. Lots of student housing immediately south and east of campus destroyed but it spared Bryant Denny Stadium by about 1/8th of a mile. Those were old rickety houses with no basements. The pictures and video don't do justice to the utter destruction in some of these places. It cut a path a mile wide and 6 miles long. The official death toll is very low. We will be pulling out bodies for days. Hundreds of houses are just gone. I have been through most all of the hardest hit areas setting up services for 1st responders so believe me when I say there are several square miles in the heart of Tuscaloosa that do not have a wall standing.

Glad you are okay, AFF.

This site shows an amazing view of the area before and after the storm. Incredible.

Spent much of the last two days down in Tuscaloosa. Absolutely devastating damage as has been reported. It has been awesome to see the incredible outpouring of love and volunteerism from across the south.

Hopefully that continues for awhile nationwide before our notoriously short attention span moves on. Praying for the churches meeting in their parking lots while planning funerals all week.
