I know it's random subject, but does anyone else really hate Digital TV (thank you President Bush and our dear benevolent government).

Reason I say this is for where I live, where the mountains pretty much block all the signals. I live 10 miles from the ABC tower, yet can't even pick it up. It used to be during the Analog days I could get Channel 5 (the ABC 13 translator for Roanoke), and I could pick up NBC Channel 12 from Greensboro better than I could Channel 10 in Roanoke (despite living in Botetourt).

Now, all I get is 7, 10, and that ION station that plays nothing but movies all day. I can't even pick up Government TV!

I understand that digital has a ton better quality of picture and sound, but that really doesn't matter if you can't even see it.

So, anybody else share my frustration?

My main gripe would be that I can't get 13.2 so I can't watch the LU games with actually good picture quality!

Digital signals have saved me money. Where I live, I can receive 20 channels (counting the .2 and .3s) and much is in HD. This, supplemented with MLB.TV for $99 bucks a year, and Hulu and ESPN 3 led to me actually dropping satellite. I never lack for something interesting to watch. Hulu is great. I love classic TV and can get my fill of Dragnet.

To tell the truth, I have satelite and MLB Extra Innings. But in my office I have a TV I just use for over the air channels. But as I mentioned, I have to watch liberty games online instead of 13.2, and its not the greatest picture quality. Unless MASN is carrying the game.

My biggest gripe is as you said, with digital you get channels you can't get anywhere else. Because I can't have them on sateilite.

I realize it's a trivial thing, but today I moved into a different room in my house (I like to switch it up every couple of few years). I reprogrammed my TV to scan the digital channels and wouldn't you know it... I now somehow have the Liberty Channel (also the Lynchburg digital translator) over the air all the way out here in BoCo.

So, lesson for the day, prayers do get answered

Now I can watch all our sports without having to stream it online.

My gripe is that not ALL channels are in HD. THAT really irritates me!! I switched to Direct from DISH and now don't get AMC (Breaking Bad etc) or BBC (Dr Who, Outcasts, reruns of Battlestar Galactica) in HD. That SUCKS. HD for all I say

I switched the other way- DirTV to Dish (DirTV wanted to charge me to replace (3) six yr old boxes and wouldnt give me a plain box, only an "upgraded" unit which I didnt want) and couldnt be happier.

Dish gave me free HiDef for life, (3) units with the capability to add (2) more, and I get a lot more channels for the same price, maybe even a couple bucks a month less.

Oh, and free movie channels (except HBO/Cinemax) for a yr.

I was in the same boat as you but opposite. I got a better deal for 2 years by switching. The installer guy actually said that he knows alot of people who switch every two years b/c the deals are better for NEW subscribers than current ones. I WAS really happy with DISH but the $$$ was just better.

I WAS really happy with DISH but the $$$ was just better.

On Monday, I downgraded to a cheaper programming package with Dish Network and agreed to send back the receiver in my guest bedroom that rarely gets used. My bill each month will now be $68 as opposed to $92. Needless to say, my fiance and soon-to-be wife is quite pleased to know we'll be saving close to $300 a year once we're married. And we all know, making the woman in our lives happy is usually better than saving money.

To anyone that may be interested, we just bought a house and signed up for DirecTV which is being installed Friday. They are offering a free year of the NFL Sunday Ticket (assuming there's a season - if not it's free next year) and Showtime (you have to call them for free Showtime) along with a free HD DVR. All other movie channels (HBO, Cinemax, Starz, etc.) are free for 3 months. We also get $10 off each month for 10 months because my in-laws referred us. Just thought I'd throw it out there. I'm actually really beginning to like DTV. Not only do I have the Liberty Channel now, now I've picked up 2 stations out of Richmond, and 1 out of Greensboro. Awesome!

The best thing is that it costs $0. I get 24 channels off-air. No. 1 son, who lives 30 miles away, is picking up 33 channels. There are a few cable/sat channels I sometimes miss, but I can supplement with free ESPN3, Hulu and $99 MLB package off internet (hooked to my big screen) and have all I care to watch.

Exactly. I'm 20 but I really like the classic shows that come on RTV. Not all, but some. Thing is in the Roanoke-Lynchburg market there's not as many subchannels as you would get in a bigger market. Like ABC and Fox stations I picked up out of Richmond, both had one subchannel dedicated to music. I thought that was odd, but after all I live near Roanoke so I've still yet to experience all the other channels other major cities have.
