Just a thought. With what I know now, I would have gone to Lebtourneau or Cedarville U for computer engineering. Of cousre LBC didn't have many choices for major at the time so it was either Bible or PE for me, I chose Bible.

I went to a private Christian school through most of my life so Liberty was a good fit for me. However I really wanted to play for Villanova or Temple and quite honestly I think I could have walked on but I would have never seen the floor at either school regardless of how well I played. Many of those guys were my teammates in summer leagues and they played behind me in those leagues but I still didn't get recruited. University of Charleston in WV was another option and Haverford College in Media PA (where Villanova is) was the only school that offered me anything but they were division III. Very high academic standards though. Most of my teachers attended Bob Jones and we took a mini-class trip down there for Thanksgiving weekend and that sealed the deal for me. No way was I ever going there!

UNCW. It's the only other school I had applied to. If I had I probably would have done something in the biology/ichtheology area. I liked fish. I visited their campus after I got accepted and boy howdy is it something else. It's what I imagine CCU to be. I still don't know why I went to LU instead after seeing that peice of real estate and the females that inhabbited it. Also on the list was FAU but I thought Florida was too far for me so I couldn't go home for breaks. Not that I did at LU anyway.

Scar, BJU, you had me laughing about your visit. I attended BJU for one year only. Back then you could not even have a football on campus, you could not play football, their reasoning was that it was a dangerous sport. But you could play soccer, and I saw all types of injuries at the campus hospital where I worked because of that so called non dangerous sport. I could only take one year of BJU and students think that LU is terrible, please. Another story, my sister came to visit with her youth group, we could not talk at night after supper, she could write me a note(pre internet) and it would be delivered later that night. Sweet, lol.

That school is so funny. I can't imagine it being run by anyone other than the Amish.

That school is the strangest place that I have ever been and it is not even close. Plus they don't really like the brotha's down there and they really wouldn't like me being married to Mrs SCAR!

Wilmington's a much better school than Coastal academically. It's a lot harder to get into (currently). It's not nearly as big of a party school as Coastal. The campus is gorgeous though.

The answer to this question is actually pretty easy to figure out for me. I'd be at Coastal or Wake.

FSU or UF since I would have had a full Tuition Scholarship with the Florida Bright Futures. I would have majored in Engineering with most of my friends from down here.

If I hadn't come to LU, I honestly would have taken a year off. Not because I couldn't go anywhere else, but because I was so sick of school by the end of high school. LU was just interesting enough to me that I went ahead and gave it a shot. If after a year I had decided to go with school, probably NCSU. I also looked into Columbia International in SC. It wasn't particularly crazy or anything, but it wasn't for me either. It was just too small.

My only other choice was USC (south carolina), but I didn't like Columbia at all. I guess I could have gone to UConn, but I was tired of everyone in high school and didn't really want to see any of them in college. If I had really thought about it, other than USC and LU, I would have gone into the military, then college.

I was actually headed to Cedarville, with LU not even being on the radar. Come mid-April of my HS senior year, finances got too tight, and put Cedarville out of the question. That same day that I gave up on Cedarville, Liberty came calling, with a free application, and enough scholarship money to make it possible, and the rest is history. I would have ended up studying electrical engineering, minoring in music. "A man's heart deviseth his ways, but the Lord directeth his paths."

That sounds eerily similar. Cedarville was my first choice growing up in Ohio on campus frequently since my grandfather was on the board there and my uncle was head of the biology department. But the sticker shock combined with lack of scholarship possibilities had me looking at Ohio State & Cincinnati until I got the scholarship to LU. Frankly, things could've have worked out any better for me. There is no way Cedarville could've prepared me in communications with their tiny department the way LU did.

LeTourneau has actually joined Belhaven as two of the leading Christian colleges with satellite campuses. They still have a small campus in Longview but they have much more active satellite campuses in cities across the Southwest region much the way Belhaven has done the same across the Deep South. Its a different way of operating than our distance learning program but one that has proven effective nonetheless.

That and my parents worked at WFUBMC (Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center...aka Baptist Hospital) and somewhat knew people. It was way to expensive though.

As I wrote on another post I had limited my options to Christian schools for my own well being. I grew up in MD so many of the state schools (UMD, UMBC, Loyolla, Towson, etc. could have been on the radar but I didn't even look. I mostly looked at smaller Christian schools:

David & Elkins College

Averett University and

Eastern College (now University)

Eastern was actually at the top of my list until my tour guide began to bash Liberty for all of the rules and convocation and spiritual emphasis. I thought to myself "If this dude is so scared of losing me to LU, they must have something down there I don't know about... he's got to have a reason to be concerned..." So I began to check into LU and the more I read, the more I liked the place. I had NO CLUE about the amount of rules and I arrived on campus with a TV I couldn't use, no dress clothes, a gotee, etc. I even went down to the registrar's office and asked for "a book called the Liberty Way". The people behind the counter laughed and said "You may be the first student to ever come in and actually request a copy." I had no clue what it was... I just remember it being mentioned during the application process... boy was I in for a surprise. To this day I don't regret my decision at all.
