Ok, I am ripping this off of an internet blog but I love lists and from the responses we get on this board so do many of you. I am a TV watching fool and I have thousands of possibilities but I will list my all-time favorite TV characters in no order:

Captain Kirk Star Trek
Andy Sipowitz NYPD Blue
Elaine Benes Seinfeld
Vick Mackey The Shield
Larry David Curb Your Enthusiasm
Gabe Kotter Welcome Back Kotter
Cliff Claven Cheers
Sonny Crockett Miami Vice
Bobby Simone NYPD Blue
Greg Brady Brady Bunch
Author Fonzarelli Happy Days
Dwayne Wayne A Different World
Mr. Burns Simpsons
Willis Jackson Different Strokes

Too many more to name. I'll post more when I think of them. Maybe I need to tighten the criteria a little.

I would put Hawkeye on a list too. I didn't watch M*A*S*H back then but I have seen a lot in re-runs. How about Archie Bunker from All in the Family and George Jefferson from the Jeffersons. 2 more for my list. I love how ignorant Archie was. He was histerical and he mis-spoke more often than not. Ground breaking show too.

Before your time. Jackie Gleason - the Honeymooners - to the moon Alice, one of his favorite saying.
The Carol Burnet Show- Harvey Corman(sp) and Tim Conway- The scene where Harvey was the patient and Tim was the dentist, trying to give Harvey a shot of novacin(sp) and ended up shooting himself in the forehead and Tim then acting like his head is going numb and Harvey cannot help controlling his laughter.
Green Acres -The husband cannot remember his name now on the show, having to climb the telelphone pole to answer his phone. Arnond the pig, funny stuff

Yes, that's Bob Crane-had to confirm that w/ "other half." I didn't used to get into reading credits; sometimes I do now (or just pick up a real-life name from reading or other tv show.
