Home Phone Service

Ok. I currently have the Verizon FiOs bundle with TV, internet, phone, wireless. I am no longer under contract with them but it’s month to month. I am shutting my internet service down since I can use the tethering option on the iPhone. I don’t use my home phone service, but just need a dial tone for my alarm system on the house. Is there any option out there I can use that will save me some money? I’ve been looking around and the best I can find is Magic Jack.

What's wrong with Magic Jack? Will VOIP work for your alarm service, or do you actually need a land line?

I used Magic Jack for a year, it was great.

Actually, never mind, you said you're ditching your internet service. Don't think Magic Jack would work with your iPhone tethering. I'm useless.

I appreciate the response. I'm not sure what my best option would be. Maybe keep the internet and switch to Magic Jack?

If you switch to tethering on your iPhone from FiOS, you're going to notice a pretty big difference in responsiveness and speed. I don't know that I'd go that route.

I actually went with Oooma. Cost 250 for the main unit and then I splurged on a hand set for 50. And that is it. I have to pay like 3/month in taxes and that is it. Paid for itself in 4 months.
