Android has surged past Symbian to become the world's best-selling smartphone operating system, according to Canalys.
While this development might be no surprise to folks in the United States, where Symbian smartphones are virtually nonexistent, Nokia's platform is still a global powerhouse with 30.6 percent of the market (and in fact, sales are still growing despite the loss in market share). I could be off-base, but this is just new sales, right? I believe RIM still has the largest number of users, thanks to the corporate world's slow acceptance of Android for its enterprise users.
I'm going to take a lot of heat for this, but to me Android is all about its apps, as a mobile OS I really don't like it that much.

i think really any smartphone these days is pretty much going to come down to the apps. ios still owns everyone when it comes to apps, but with android being open, i imagine they are going to catch up pretty quick, especially with how well android devices are selling these days.

I love Android and will always be a Android user but these numbers they throw around are silly at times. Yes, the number of users is impressive but it's far more impressive for Apple to have such a large market share offering one device (a few versions) on one carrier. But, Like Eric Schmidt said....if we have a billion users and make only $10 off each one...do you think that's profitable?
Either way it's good to be any of them.
