They're done messing around.
LTE to be launched November 15th (approximately)
http://gigaom.com/2010/06/30/verizon-to ... te-nov-15/
Verizon Wireless will launch its next-generation LTE data network on Nov. 15, the Boy Genius Report is reporting, citing an unnamed “tipster.” Compatible data devices (data plans will be tiered) would be the first offerings for use on Verizon’s LTE network, BGR notes, which is expected to offer speeds between 5-12 Mbps, trumping Sprint’s current 4G implementation.
and iPhone in January
http://www.usatoday.com/tech/products/2 ... 0_ST_N.htm
Verizon Wireless will start selling Apple's iPhone next year, ending AT&T's U.S. exclusive on the phone, say two people familiar with the plans.
The device will be available to customers in January, according to the people, who declined to be named because the information isn't public. Natalie Kerris, an Apple spokeswoman, and Jeffrey Nelson, a Verizon Wireless spokesman, declined to comment. AT&T also declined to comment. USA TODAY was unable to independently verify the reports.
of course the whole iphone thing has been said over and over so who knows if that one's legit.

i read last year verizon was supposed to get the iPhone this year, so I'll believe it when I see it. That will be an improvement over AT&T, but it won't fix the whole being reamed for service thing though.

Just don't hold it the wrong way or drop it, reception will be crappy or it will shatter.

I feel bad for folks who bought extended plans from AT&T when the iPhone 4 came out.
I am actually most excited about the Android LTE models coming out this spring from Verizon.

Sounds like AT&T made a strong push to get people under extended contracts knowing this day was coming...

I'm too lazy to look everything up.
I'm eligible for an upgrade in April. Will the iPhone be out by then? Is the iPhone 5 coming out this summer? Someone with more knowledge help me out.

Yes and maybe (probably yes) is what they are saying...

Thank you sir.
Next question: Is Verizon going to charge for a special iPhone plan or will the normal unlimited data that you get for BB or Droids ($30/mo) be the same?

Should be same unlimited plan.
The biggest loser in all of this is Google. Verizon doesn't have the motivation to push the Droid as much. I'll be switching to the iPhone, just because it's easier to sync w/ my Mac, where do I 95% of my work.

They didn't release that key piece of info yet... I would think that it would be more as AT&T does 2GB w/ tethering at $45 ( 2GB at $25). If VZ gave you $45 unlimited data with tethering that would be a good deal IMO.

To add the tethering option, it's $30/per month w/ Verizon. I doubt they change their pricing just for the iPhone.

Are there minimum service and data pricing requirements?
Yes, iPhone customers will need to choose from any of the current Nationwide plans. Customers will also be required to activate a data package, pricing will be announced at a later date.

What sense would it make for them to change their pricing now? You either activate the tethering option or you don't.

Yeah idk why they would want to change it but the fact that they didn't release it makes me think they are raising the price... and I'll probably pay whatever ridiculous amount they want

We dropped Verizon tethering and switched to using a Fivespot. It is more cost effective and allows the kids to connect to WiFi while we're travelling.

Now that I live in an area with good AT&T coverage I have zero regrets. AT&T's 3G tech is superior to Verizon's. Verizon's coverage, however, is far superior to AT&T's. It's just about what you need.
I'll be excited for LTE on all carriers when it's rolled out. The GSM-based standard will be beneficial for everyone. Goodbye, CDMA. "Nationwide coverage by 2013" is what Verizon is pitching right now though. That's a long time between now and ubiquitous LTE.
If I were still in Lynchburg I'd be excited about the Verizon iPhone. You Android kiddos have fun, but I like iOS, I like Apple's hardware and I'm invested in it. No switching for me.
