Few stadia in American collegiate athletics can be more intimidating for opposing players than Penn State University’s Beaver Stadium (capacity: 107,282) in the town of State College (population: 39,419). And now the bowl’s legendary crowd noise will soon be even more pronounced, not for any kind of fake, pumped-in sound effects but rather the acoustical science behind relocating one of the student sections.

Penn State student Andrew Barnard, who’s working toward a PhD in the university’s Graduate Program in Acoustics, led a study that used a dozen acoustic meters to analyze sound pressure levels during three home games, including one last September against Big Ten conference-foe Iowa. Cool article. I have heard of a number of schools making structural & seating adjustments for hoops in a much smaller space, but never for football.

Having been down on the field at some of the loudest stadiums, I can't imagine the impact being that significant because one you reach a certain level of volume it all turns to noise.

It would be cool to see how we could make some adjustments to the upgraded Williams Stadium to maximize crowd noise.

Before we worry about maximizing nosie at Williams Stadium, lets get the baptist side off their rear ends.

I forgot to tell you the plan for this Saturday. You, me, bar, beers, buzzed. Wings, shots, drunk! Waitresses - hot! Football, Cornell-Hofstra, slaughter! Then quick nap at my place, then we hit the tizzown.
