Census

Got my census yesterday. It was the short form. I'm going to try my hand at the libertarian method of just filling out my name and number of people here and ignoring everything else. We'll see how that works out. Anybody get the long form?

I forget who it was, but someone suggested filling in "American" in the race question.

I don't care if they know this info (on the short form, I would mind them knowing things like income, spending habbits, etc. on the long form), but I'm not entirely sure they're allowed to demand it from me. So I'm going to cause at least a minimum amount of trouble. Maybe I'll get a visit from a census agent asking for clarification. And I'll probably wet my pants and tell them my race. But filling out as little info as possible on a non confrontational form is the least I can do.

people are freaking out about this but i have a buddy who is a city planner and he says this stuff is essential to getting proper funding for their city. while it feels intrusive it isn't just a monitoring tool by the gvt. he concedes they use it for that info as well but that there is alot of good that can come from filling it out entirely.
he said minorities = big bucks btw....so i'm going to say i'm african american. if the census people stop by i will just claim i was in a freak chemical accident just like sammy sosa.

I know what it's used for. And I don't support it. So I'll just be obnoxious.

whats funny is the gvt doesn't give 2 flying chits about what we have to say until it comes to the census...now they want our input.
i'm going to put all sorts of stuff like my income is "ask the welfare receipients who receive 20% of it" and my birthplace as "stayoutofthehealthinsuranceindustryville"
that'll learnem

Hey, the more people decide not to send in the form, the happier I will be. I'm getting paid $13 an hour plus fifty cents a mile to go get the info from the people who didn't fill out the form.
Yeah, it's not great money, but it's good money for the little amount of work you have to do. Like they say, it ain't rocket surgery!!

My dad did that back in 2000 and made pretty decent money off of it.

Awesome. If you come to my house, what is the minimum amount of info you'll accept before you can leave and not come back? If I just give you my name and number of people, is that enough?

Ok I had to chime in here.
I worked it in 2000. I was the guy who was checking on the other census workers to make sure they weren't making stuff up when they submitting the forms.....a lot of them never even visit the houses and just sit there and fill out forms in their living room, claim working 40 hours, 400 miles, and actually spent about 3 hours in front of the t.v. filling in fake names and info. So my job was to go to houses and ask "is this right" and sometimes go to problem houses that wouldn't fill info or find addresses that didn't exist.
It might have been one of the most fun/exciting jobs I ever done. I show up at one house with my badge and a kid smoking a joint stuffs it down his pants lit, so I walk up there and he thinks I'm a cop and literally his pants are catching on fire while I ask him if he lives there. I finally let him know I'm with the census and he finally wips it out and runs inside to stop the burning.
I show up at illegals houses and they offer me basically any food/possessions they have.
I show up at a trailor park and have a lady tell me she'll shoot me if I don't get off her property in 30 seconds, that she doesn't believe in the federal government.
From what I can tell, I was the last line of defense, so nothing is going to happen to you (at least based on what I know) if you don't fill it out. I got off that lady's property quick and never went back.
More than anything, rather than making me think our government is shady and out to get us, it made me realize just how incompetent it really is.
Just a bunch of bumbling morons spending waaaaay too much money for data that wasn't going to be even close to being correct.

i have a buddy that is the head of a print shop for the DOD. he says that as much as we think the gvt has these secret plans and what not that they are really so unorganized and misinformed that its impossible for them to be this shady group of masons who have the world in their hand and know how to play the game.

Its true...if the general populace really figured out how incapable the government was, it wouldnt be that hard to dissolve it (as outlined in the Declaration of Independence)

OK, so how do we do this BJ?
Re: Census

Well its hard to say because the general populace is largely unaware of the incapableness of the federal government and its hard for any one person who wants to change the government to really get any traction because of the fact that there are so many special interests that have their hands in the pockets of every representative and senator. If there was a way to eliminate about 80 percent of those then we'd be off to a good start.

Of course not...as much as I think bombing some terrorist supporting nations off the face of the earth would be a good idea I dont think we would be well served to violently dissolve our government.

Dunno -- my two-day paid training is next Wednesday and Thursday. They probably want number, ethnicity, and household income range, though.
And unless you live in Ohio, I won't be showing up at your door
Oh, and

All it took for me to realize that was taking the test. 28 questions that my 8-year-old daughter could have answered correctly. It frightens me what kind of people are out there who actually fail that thing.
