NEW YORK - Two major cable networks, ESPN and Discovery, said yesterday that they plan to start beaming 3-D entertainment into peoples’ homes for the first time.
Riding what could be one of the next big waves in consumer electronics, ESPN said it will have a 3-D channel for broadcasting live sports events in time for the June 11 FIFA World Cup soccer match. The channel will not operate 24 hours a day but plans at least 85 live events in its first year.
Separately, Discovery Communications Inc., which owns Discovery, TLC, and other cable channels, said it will partner with Imax Corp. and Sony Corp. to bring out its own full-time 3-D network in 2011.
Requires viewers to get a new 3Dtv and a new set top box. I have a feeling people who have dropped $100s to $1000s on a flat panel HDTV aren't going to be thrilled to hear that.

Obama has your back. Free TV's will be included in the new health care bill.

This could be the greatest thing for TV since color but I think it's gonna flop just because people aren't gonna buy new TVs for this at this point. HD sets have finally dropped to a reasonable price and everybody has upgraded.

I'm still skeptical of the whole 3D-TV without glasses concept. I just don't see it working without glasses unless it's some sort of holographic projection.

Not...everybody.
Like me, I watch tv exclusively through the computer and don't have an HD screen. However, i'm not about to go buy a new laptop with a 3D screen just to watch some gimmick.
