I know this has been discussed here at some point, but I could not find it.

Did DTV have an explanation why we do not get any of the Fox Sports Channels on DTV without paying for the sports package? I thought we were supposed to get our local Fox Sports Channel ie. Sports South (or whatever) I know we get CSN, but that does not have the same programming as our the Fox channels.

Also...when did we lose ESPN Classic? I noticed it quite awhile ago, but never asked....

So you have both then?

I'm personally fairly happy with Dish. They recently added several sports channels, most notably ESPNU and NBA TV, to my package. These channels were previously only available through the sports package or on a more expensive total package. And they added it without raising my monthly price any at all.

RedZone Channel is the reason I'll be sticking with DTV....if you guys dont know what it is you dont know what you're missing. This is what all the guys on ESPN like SVP and others watch Sunday football on

Which is why they overhype things and don't really know what they're talking about. If all you watched was RedZone, you wouldn't get to see the Redskins at all.

Yeah they dropped classic a few months ago. It's now a "premium" channel. As for the sports channels, it must be something with fox because I get other local sports channels w/o paying extra i.e. MASN, Comcast Sports Net, etc.

I think it depends on where you live. In the Philly area, we don't get the Comcast local due to some contract thing. You have to pay for the sports pack to get any of those, but they STILL black out Comcast-Philly.

I called and screamed and they pretty much told me to go pound sand.

As far as Classic- it was a little while ago and I don't really miss it. The only thing I did like is when they re-played good games/races the next day on Classic, but that was only once in a while.

Still not enough to motivate me to switch to Dish.

when i signed up for directv two years ago, i knew from the start that you had to get the sports package to get the regional sports channels. i also still have classic. the main reason i have directv is because of NFL Sunday Ticket and that is even getting a bit ridiculous, because you have to pay extra to get the HD Games. i will still pay the extra to get it all.

I had to get rid of the sports package. The only channel I miss is Fox Soccer Channel. It's so hard keeping up with the EPL without that channel.

Dead on.

1. I did as well.
2. I do as well (so do my kids)
3. virtually impossible unless you have hours to sit online or watch GOAL TV

PS...you can get a lot of things free from Directv. Read up on Slickdeals.net about what they are offering at the time. Sometimes it's more HD programing for free or Sports for free, etc....you can get a lot from them if you act like it's enough to make you switch....takes about 10 minutes

Everybody always says stuff like this, and the same thing with wireless service/phones too. This threat to switch thing has never once worked for me except for 1 time when I actually had already switched.

After a year without locals...and the price of Sunday Ticket getting out of hand, I decided to trash DTV.

I couldn't justify paying $500 to add HD service. A ridiculous $300 install fee and then adding a $200 receiver was too much.

i meant dish.

all directtv has over dish is the nfl package which i can't for the life of me justify buying for 200 bucks.

you aren't talkign to the right people. customer retention will bendover backwards for you.

i got a free hd receiver from dish, i've gotten free texts from verizon, and when i left sprint, they were offereing me all sorts of goodies to stay...

I'm in LUConn's camp. With the exception of Sprint PCS, nobody has ever offered me anything at the threat of account closure. I've tried it with credit cards numerous times, and their response is, "Go ahead and close it. We don't care."

like i said, its generally because you are not talking to customer retention. i almost got a job with a local cable company here when i was going to work in the customer retention group. it opened my eyes to the process. i would of been paid a low hourly wage. if i got someone to stay, i would get a bonus that fluctuated based off of how much stuff i had to give away to keep them. i asked and they said most cable/tv/phone companies's customer retention department is like this. if you were just paid x amount of dollars an hour there is no incentive for you to convince someone to stay.

Exactly. Anytime I need something done with Sprint I always speak with Retention. Customer Service Reps can only give you so much. Retention is the only thing from you and being on the open market.

This year they gave me free sports and HD because they made me pay full price for Sunday ticket, I've NEVER paid full price, normally it's half off or something but this year I canceled it to soon rather then have them call me asking if I wanted to renew. Always call to cancel and say you cannot afford it....this year they were giving away the Premium package for free for a year if you got it. Thats a great deal

The best they would offer me was $100 off the installation. Meanwhile, I switched to cable and got the install for free w/ local channels and HD for free...and my bill shrunk by $40 a month.

Local channels weren't even in the plans here in WV.

Sucks to lose Sunday Ticket but I'd rather watch the games online for free then give them my first born.

The people you get on the phone when calling Comcast are merely people working at a call center....answering calls for many different types of companies. In fact, I have asked them where they were. So far, I've been connected to Florida & Illinois...that I know of. There is a scripted amount of things they can do. When you call, simply ask for the customer retention department. Don't waste your time with the first person that answers the phone.
