Mother may not be charged in the death of her newborn

Campbell County authorities say the mother of a newborn baby who died last week probably won't be charged in her child's death. The state medical examiner is still working to determine a cause of death. In this case, authorities say the mother gave birth to the child several hours before 911 was called on Friday. However, because the child's umbilical chord was never cut, under the law in Virginia the child was never actually alive.

I wonder who wrote that? That would open a pandora's box of insanely late abortions.

For anyone not close to the situation, Sheriff Gaddy's and Sen. Newman's responses are indicative of the "mother's" involvement in the death of this baby. There are plenty of people aware of the facts in this case, and there is no question in their minds that this was a homicide. Note the investigators comments as well as the ME's report in the latest N&A write-up.
