The wife and I got our iPhones in the mail (Refurbished 16GB 3GS). I know some of you have iPhones and wonder what you would consider to be the best (free) apps out there.

Pandora app is awesome. Especially if you are going on a long trip. It has saved me more than a few times.

Free Games:
Words With Friends (online Scrabble)
Shake & Spell (online Boggle)
Zynga Live Poker (online Hold 'Em with fake money)
Sol Free (different Solitaire-type games)
Gorillas (just like the old QBasic game)
Mafia Wars (although it gets old after a while)
Real Racing GTI (racing game with really good graphics)
Paid Games:
The Secret of Monkey Island: Special Edition
Yetisports
Gorillas (same as above but with more options)
Shake & Spell and Words With Friends have paid versions, but I haven't felt the need to spring for those.

Am I the only one who never plays games on his phone? I'm too stingy with my battery life, and I guess I don't have a whole lot of opportunities to sit around and play games on my phone.

I don't play them either.

I'm not really interested in games either. Basically looking for apps that will make life a little easier.

I'm all about using my iPod Touch to its fullest potential, and that includes gaming. I might not be as into it on a phone, though.

Yeah, it's the original Monkey Island game with updated graphics, music and voices, ported to the iPhone/iPod Touch. Not sure if they made a BB version. This is the same as the remake that was recently released for PC and Mac.

urbanspoon is great for finding restaurants
If you like Starbucks, their free app is outstanding.
Anyone of the flashlight apps come in handy
Weatherbug elite (the for sale version) is well worth it.
Camerazoom is a good app for the camera
Fandango if you go to the movies
Shazam is a fun app - hold it to a speaker, will tell you what song is playing, with links to iTunes, etc
Planets is interesting - gives star locations, etc
The google apps - voice google, google earth

That I do, but that's when I read magazines, web articles, or wiki-stuff. I have a folder on my desk at work called "Stuff to read" (it's actually the only thing on my desk), and it's just crap that looks interesting but I don't have time to read it on the computer, so I print it out for reading during those precious moments away from my desk.

Isn't that what laptops are for?

That is your first mistake in thinking that I'm actually important enough to have a laptop. Plus if I did, I don't like any of my stuff touching anything in the bathroom, especially a bathroom outside my house. My system works well for me.
So, any iPhone apps you could recommend?

Has anyone else played Traffic Rush yet? It's on the top free games list in the iTunes store, or was recently. The object is to control traffic at an intersection, avoiding crashes. Very Frogger inspired. Also very addictive.

My office is addicted to Words with Friends (Scrabble but only against friends) and it's pretty fun playing against people you know and I'm not known to be one keen to games in this genre
Also I came across Logitech's Touch Mouse. VERY COOL. I have my computer set up more like an entertainment center beside my sofa so in order to type or use the computer I need to use my wireless keyboard and mouse. It's annoying to have this big keyboard always when I'm just browsing the internet and only need to type in url's at the most. This app turns your iphone/ipod into a mouse with the ability to type. It connects via wifi and you need to install a small file on your desktop to make it work. Honestly I just spent $40 on something very similar...just a smaller keypad with a track ball that is hand held mainly used for entertainment pc's. Wish I would have found this app before I bought the keypad. Oh well.

That's my wife's favorite on her iPod Touch. She also loves Uno but we upgraded her quickly to the paid app.

I really like the concept of the game but it's a bit slow. Hopefully it will be better after the new update.
