I know some of you guys are all over this week with the bargains to be had. For those of us who aren't anywhere near as savvy as shoppers, any chance you guys could share with the big deals can be found.

Selfishly I'd love to find where I can score a quality netbook for a ridiculous price. But I'd love to hear about all of the best opportunities.

I've been looking for netbooks too Sly. That particular item seems to be a bit of a trick this year. I actually read an article warning about them. You can find great deals as low as $149 on them, however they're hoping people will be so excited about it they won't notice what they are buying is an underpowered garbage box. It really seems to go against the nature of what black friday sales normally are. Kmart is selling a Delstar 7" notebook for $120. $120!!!!!!!!!!! Oh yeah and it's running Windows CE.

I think I decided I'm gonna save up for an Asus Eee PC.

Which brings up something else I've noticed. Most of the deals this Friday are on Acers. No way I'm taking a 25% chance that my netbook is gonna fail in the first year.

I've seen quite a few on HPs (which are designed by my house but I'm still not interested) and I haven't seen much of anything on Asus or Dell netbooks.

i did my black friday shopping on the 7th. picked up a panasonic TC-P46U1 for 788 bucks. the problem is that they are sellign them for 698 on friday. so today i walked in and it was in their computers so they price corrected it for me.

No way in the world would I ever participate in Black Friday away from the confines of my computer. I've gotten some absolute steals for Black Friday the past two years just sitting at home on the computer. sure I had to wait for it to be delivered, but that beats having to deal with all the loonies who go out to the stores for the weekend.

Oh come on. People die on roller coasters every year. Skydiving. Parasailing. Going to the beach. There are plenty of activities that are fun and yet have a minimal amount of risk attached to them.

This is one of them.

I'd prefer a netbook, but Best Buy's $197 HP laptop wouldn't be a bad 2nd choice. Only 5 per store making it next to impossible to score.

I know, just saying though. Unless there is an exclusive deal that is in-store only, it makes more sense in just about every way to go the online route.

That is the exact kind of article I've been looking for. I've been shopping around for about a week now, and I keep coming back to Asus. I've been eying the 1005HA and according to that article there coming out with a 1201N which is a bit on the higher end. Maybe that'll drive down the price of the former.

ASUS Eee PC 1005HA Hands down the best around although the new Asus has it beat but the 1005 you can find Sub $300 or right at it. 10 hours battery life...what more could you ask for??


My second pick would be the Lenovo S10 If you've ever owned an Lenovo you know how reliable they are.

Here is a Dell 10v (10 in) that is at $230. I have the Dell 9 which is a solid computer but I'm getting a 10 (not sure if it'll be the dell or not) because the size difference between the 9 and 10 is needed.

My wife has a Lenovo desktop we bought for her a year ago and it is awful. So take that for what it is worth.

Where's the Dell 10v for $230? That sounds intriguing.

I haven't seen many deal for the Asus machines. Let me know if anyone spots some.

You need to update SD every few hours....if the deal is hot enough it wont last...oh and they have ASUS for $300 or so every month or so

I'm not a fan, based on our experiences with them at work. I greatly prefer Dell when it comes to PCs.

However, I think netbooks are a bit of a different ballgame. I think the reviews for each particular model are more important than the overall brand reputation, kind of like buying a cell phone. That only covers speed, function, etc. though. The manufacturer's warranty, support reputation, etc. also obviously comes into play.

Not very exciting purchases, but necessary: on Black Friday I'll be buying:

1. a new microwave (to replace the one I blew up on Thanksgiving);
2. a battery for my truck (that died on Wednesday).

Thankfully, neither purchase will require me to be in line at Target at 4:00 a.m.
